I also brought my 2 M digit. during this boat trip  but I have almost no used.
When I think, knowing that I have 36 exposures for my roll , I trigger  less
and think  more what I take. The colors are less vivid on my digital pictures

in comparison

I think the green (as seen on my uncorrected office monitor) looks good, Henry. Funny, I know this spot in Annecy.

Nice Henry.  Have I learned correctly from you that this is "contre-jour" ? :)

Thank you Adam and Philip for your advices :)

Henry

In Paris, sometimes polluted by exhaust gas cars, the banks of the Seine River are a quiet place to walk,

sports jogging (to lower cholesterol)  :)  and instead of romantic rendezvous for lovers,

all under a fresh breeze coming from the Seine (we are only at 100 kms from the sea) , which cleans the

atmosphere, ideal in summer !

Pont des Arts

There were many padlocks of lovers on this bridge in danger of collapse.

The mayor a woman , of Paris City Hall has all removed and replaced with panel

you see now

Street photos Paris

To stand on the Pont des Arts is to be surrounded by a density of civilized society that is unsurpassed anywhere, in my experience. The Louvre, the Institut de France, a domestic architecture that is simply beautiful, and the spire of the Saint Chapel in the background. A place to return to all my life.

Thanks Michael, merci Michel , for this kind comment.

Paris remains Paris :) despite the unfortunate events of crazy illuminated people last year

Each time I look at these pictures of balloon, for me the film surpasses very far the level of digital in color general rendering by :

-the definition "without harshness" (edges and lines not "sharp" as a razor) in comparison with M8-M9 pictures I call "soft"

-the level of color fidelity - vivid and living color
Here dusk with sunset  ,  there is no appeal !
Remark from someone who has 5 years of experience in digital and 40 years of film ,
makes me say that , without a doubt.

Henry - can you PLEASE post your photographs and, obviously, comment on them as much as you like, but can you please please please stop using it as an opportunity to 'dig' at digital.

Almost every opportunity you get, you make some negative and often superfluous comment regarding digital photography, being too harsh, or too 'clinical' or too 'sharp' or too contrasty...

It's getting rather tedious... to the point I am reluctant to visit this thread...

I visit this thread, not because its 'film', but because I want to see the photographs and the work that others are doing.

In fact, your insistent and weak comments about digital are getting SO tedious, I have actually put off buying a film M because I am getting so irritated by your comments...

It is perfectly possible to simply post your photo's, comment on them, give what technical detail you think may be useful and not mention digital at all...

It's a film thread... it would help the rest of us if you could keep comments about digital v film to threads about digital v film (tedious and pointless as they are...).

What is even more amusing is that the more you talk about digital 'bad', film 'good', the more it sounds like you are trying to convince yourself.

Anyone feeling completely confident in themselves, doesn't walk around telling people how 'confident' they are... do they...?  How would they come across if they did....???? :p

So, please Henry, post your pictures... but it makes your position look insecure if you simple criticise digital at every opportunity. It simply continues to make it look like you have a weak argument and are convincing yourself...

No-one else does it. Every one else simply posts their pictures and tell us what film/camera/lens/location/insipiration they had at the time...

Bill, it's not really the kind of thread to start stoking things up. And I rather doubt Henry is trying to convince himself of anything.

Here's a photo of some Dorset trees to get the thread back on-topic.

Neopan 400 CN (I think).

Billthank you for your post, your franchise and for watching this thread .
I took notes but you will notice that I put more argument in other threads  when I talk about the comparison digital versus film.
I post here film pictures I agree , but certainly I'm lucky to still have these two types of cameras system to compare.

This is a film thread but it's also a thread that compares the results of both types of system. The purpose is hopefully
to getting things done for example, those who choose to engage in film camera or to choose film brand  (just see the many threads that are created in section  "M film" or  "film" or  "darkroom") like here:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/255498-convince-me-to-buy-a-film-m/

I do not know what you all  think about this thread , but it is for them to intervene and answer .
Many of us still have their digital cameras and I want to ask them to help the "undecided to decide".

So this is a useful meaning for all.

In 482 pages this thread has not degenerated into a film vs. digital argument, and I don't see that it should do so now. I have no objection to Henry making comments about his two digital Ms when he compares the output to his film Ms. Presumably, most readers and contributors to this thread would agree as they have continued to participate in this very long and successful thread.

And the thread IS called "I like film" after all :)

I happen to agree with chrism; I don't mind it a bit, I like the way film looks so I shoot it. I also have a digital camera around for other things that need it.

This is a very pleasant and long running thread with lots of great images in it.

Fortunately I have the Leica Grip handle to securely hold the camera if no it is .... the fall  :(

Respecting the instructions given by Tetenal , all my films developed by myself are better than those made by outside labs
and no scratches on film  !

Brightness is truly extraordinary that day
I am lucky to have been able to make this trip by balloon during 3 hours

For Trev , thanks for your kind comment :)

Looking toward Fleetwith pike and Haystacks from Peggy's Bridge. Taken just before the recent floods in the Lake District, although there's a stream this is normally dry pasture.

Doc. the baloon pics are great.

Actually I'm not bothered nor anything else by the comments about digital. I also think like Doc, there's no comparison between the two. Film wins hands down. It's not my opinion, there are several comparisons on the net.

Having said that, I also have a digital, a small Sony and the quality is really great, and I'm probably about buying a Fuji. But when I compare it to my Leica IIIf, I understand why a sensor doesn't have the capabilites of the film. Maybe in the future, due the fact technology runs like hell, but it's like comparing vinyl to cds.

If you think there are programs to emulate in digital the scratches and hisses of the vinyl, you'll have difficulty to keep your jaw still attached to your mouth.

And, beside the technical side, if I think I have to spend some thousand Euros for a digital that 6 months later will probably sell for half of the price... it's like lighting a cigarette with a Euros 500 bill.
