Just getting started in film and for the most part photography on any kind of regular basis. I have a few questions if appropriate to ask here. I spend very little time on the internet but this site and in particular this thread is full of wonderful images and talent. I have a few older 35mm film cameras as well as a borrowed Leica M4 that I plan to use for all of this year. I find the M4 much easier to focus than my Nikon FM and my now older eyes. I did mess with digital a few years back for a little while but I am not fond of computers, learning software and digital editing of any sort. Plenty old enough to have spent a large portion of my life with film but never had an interest at the time. I see many of you post your images along with the camera and lens used as well as the developer details. Does anyone here just send out their exposed film? I am intrigued by the process of a wet print but hesitate because it seems that darkroom work is an endeavor which require a significant amount of time and added expense. It often takes me a good month to exhaust a roll of film. Time, interesting subject matter (do not wish to shoot just for the sake of shooting) and the changing light can be a challenge when using say one roll of Kodak TMax 3200 over a period of 30-40 days. Trying to meter (phone app) for indoors and outdoors at box speed can also be rather limiting. Do any of you have a preferred lab in the USA that you like? That is how I plan to start. Send out the first three rolls and see how I did with metering. My apologies for the long text. Paul

Hi Paul
Working with a Pro-Lap is one way to get your bw-negativs. I recomend  for C41 and E6 (color-negativ / Dia).
Pro: Lazy
Con: Slow, inflexible and you have only little influence on development (Push/normal/Pull).

For black and white negatives, I recommend a minimal home development solution using bulk film.
For this way you need a cheap dark Bag, a one-film-tank, thermometer,. easy one shot developer, fixer, and a shower for drying the films and water.
I recommend rolling your own canisters as you can use short film, such as 12-shot film. So the bulkfilm loader is worth the money because
the flexibility it offers together with your minimal home development solution.

What's more, the entire journey from finding the subject, clicking the camera, to the first look at the virgin, wet negative is in your own hands.
That didn't bore me for more than 40 years.

WOW.  This is a great shot and a great find.  Is this a common place to photograph?  You got it on the right day with the right mood.  Really nice.

I’ve been going to this spot since 1975 but it’s always different and interesting.

ps: I find that nc400 really shines here. It does not have a a lot of latitude but when it works it really is beautiful.

Very nice, I totally agree with your observation, although you did add a wonderful composition - a fact that should not be forgotten 🙂.

Btw, there are a few other films with similar latitudinal characteristics, easily to get it wrong, but if you hit the sweet spot nothing compares. In my experience for example Double-X and Polypan-F for B&W.

Thanks a lot! I have a forgotten roll of double-x in the fridge. Will give it a try!

The wait is a tad agonizing, so I'm putting in an order for some of those entries from your diary reflecting on your experience with Mary Ellen Mark's Oaxaca Workshop. Please, please.

Thank you sincerely, Rog. This is one that I really like, and have printed, although it didn't make it to MEM's final edit:

Hi Stuart, the image is visible to me, and it would seem to others. I hope you are able to view it sometime as it may help to rekindle some of the wonderful memories I’m sure you have from a couple of months ago, although I’m sure you’ll have taken plenty of superb pictures there. It is a beautiful place.
