The negatives were completely unusable. It's a strange film, absolutely exactly as it says on the box; 'retro & soft', using it is like wearing a gabardine mac after a lifetime of Goretex. It's a throwback to another time, if you're going to get on with Foma Retro Soft then you need to accept perseverance is mandatory with it. This time it responded better to stand development in RO9 1:100. I still have a couple of rolls, I doubt I'll buy it again, but I can see a certain aesthetic within it that would complement an alternative print process such as salt printing. Luskentyre, low tide. Before going out to the New Year's Eve dinner, the girls started to "farsi belle", as we say in Italian, and I didn't miss the occasion to make some shots of them. In the following days I'll post a few. At the moment of shooting I had in the camera a roll of Tri-x. Since all the pictures were taken inside under dim light, I decided to use semi-stand development and push it to 1600. I was a bit afraid about contrast and grain, but I must say I like the result in the end. The camera was an Olympus OM3 paired with a Zuiko 100 f2. In my humble opinion, this lens is one of the nicest portrait lens around. I love its creamy bokeh and the transition from the focus to the out-of-focus areas. Veronica Welcome, dear visitor! No sinister thoughts provoked, James, we all end up there eventually. It's part of life, as are the different cultural representations that interest you. If you're ever in London, I'd recommend a visit to Highgate Cemetery. It's a treasure trove of craftsmanship and a good place to pursue a little mindfulness for a while.
