Wolfen NC500 - Leica M3 - 5cm Nikkor-SC f/1.4

Uh oh Wolfen NC500!! What do you make of this new film? Can’t really judge the colours from your sample pictures here.

Hello Christoph,

I rated it at 320 and still found it quite grainy with a green/blueish  tint in the shadows .

A friend developped it normaly and scanned it for me .

It took some post work to get the results to my liking .

Best regards

JM

ORWO says it's Agfas XT320 cine stock from the 80ies and 90ies. I shot with it various projects back then, mostly music videos on S16mm. It was a lovely stock with a little magenta/rosé tint in the skin tones and some cyan feeling in the shadows. Already back then somewhat of a vintage feeling. Quite grainy and needed to be exposed at ISO 200/160. But when Kodak brought 5293 (200 ASA, and t-grain design), I defaulted to that stock and to 5298 (500 ASA) when I wanted to trade wide latitude and less grain for more character. As far as I remember, Agfa XT320 was tungsten sensitive, as all the faster film stocks were. I used a Wratten 85 filter in sunlight and an 85B filter in overcast weather conditions for the correct colours. If I wanted cooler colours outside, I used the 81EF. These filters took roughly 2/3 stops. Without any colour temperature filter, correcting the WB later was harder and led to funky colours, which sometimes was desirable, especially when printing for cinema, as caucasian skin tones became muted into a porcelain feeling.
