An experiment taking 3 photos with Tri-X 400 on a tripod with red, green and blue filters. The 3 scans were loaded into Gimp as three separate layers, "colorised" and with the opacity adjusted to allow the colours to blend. I don't know if it's the correct way to do it because it's far from perfect. I was lucky to catch a powered paraglider while on the green filter. Nikon F2 Photomic, Nikkor-S Auto 50mm 1:1.4.

Very cool. I have no idea about the technical stuff you described but I really like the spooky almost 3D result. Reminds me of watching stills from the Creature of the Black Lagoon on my old red plastic picture viewer as a kid (minus the monster).

Thanks Philip. It's essentially simulating the overlay of 3 transparencies in red, green and blue. The 3d effect is probably due to the slight misalignment of the layers as the scans are all slightly askew from one another and were nudged in Gimp as best I could to produce a sharp image. I'll try adjusting the opacity of each layer to see if the colour can be improved, but immediately after uploading this image to my phone, the power supply on my computer blew up. So it may take some time.... 😞

An old photo taken with the Leica IIIc and Summitar 50 on Tri-X at Kidepo in the Karamoja District of Uganda.

Nothing special but, ironically, my framing improved after the IIIc replaced my Nikon F: for the simple reason that the tiny VF and rangefinder windows of the IIIc made to more conscious of the framing. With the Nikon F I hunted for the image in the beautiful ground glass image; with the IIIc I looked more at what I wanted to shoot before bringing the camera up to my eye.

I share this photo purely for its historic interest; no photographic merit in here at all. Taken on the island of Penang, Malaysia in 2017. Midday tropical sun, 400 asa, Ilford HP5.

Here is where the "founder" of Penang (which he named Prince of Wales Island and its capital George Town) Francis Light went out, falling to malaria. There is an interesting bit of colonial history surrounding Light and his contributions to Empire for anyone so inclined. I found the little detail that a century after Light's passing, his grave, which lies in the Protestant cemetery, was restored by a certain M/s Brown & Co who got the marble slab engraved and sent out from Calcutta quite interesting.

Sorry about the overexposure, gentlemen. "Too much light, Francis!"

When I came along  this harvester 2 yrs ago, I was fascinated by the uncompromising functionality of the construction, the color ! and, of course, by the fact that it´s still working after 30+ yrs... unlike the GDR, were it was produced. It bears  the name "Zukunft"= Future.

Great picture :) Like a patchwork of textures and colours. And a priceless look too.

Haha made me smile. And on a technical note, top notch exposure. I really like how the sky has been whited out. Very cool effect.

Nice experiment!
I did similar things in reproduction camera in the 80s for colorseparation for making dye transfer prints.
There are special kodak (and others) filters for color separation. Found their names in the depth of the www. But you have to test different exposure times for each color to get a good grey balance. With that method you should be able to make color photos with a Leica monochrome…
In layer mode in Photoshop you could switch on the desired colorchanel for each colorseparation. May be you must set the layer to blend mode multiply at least.
