Hi Steve, there are definitely others who participate in this thread and have knowledge about Silverfast's settings so just ask away. This is one of the best threads on the internet for all things film photography-related.

Thanks Philip. I do believe I've over cocked the processing resulting in an exaggerated shadow and enhanced grain. The negative was over exposed maybe 2 stops (im guessing).
I'm also in the process of trying to get to grips with Silverfast (not the most intuitive of interfaces, I might add) and I think my enthusiasm merged with desperation resulted in a bit of a mess. I'll have another attempt aiming for a flat histogram from the scanner/Silverfast and then post process in LR / SEP.

Philip - Quite a random subject.  But the colors, resolution and quality of the scan is top of the line :)

Not far from where I shot the earlier water and sunset photos I found a little forest with several very large moss covered rocks that must have been moved there ages ago by the ice which covered much of Scandinavia. As a result of the ice cap, Sweden is still rising by approximately 1cm per year. Forests like these gave illustrator John Bauer inspiration for his very atmospheric paintings and drawings with gnomes, fairies and trolls.

Silverfast user here. It’s actually an easy software to use. The only quirk is that it always scans at the scanners base exposure, which can be a problem for dense over exposed b/w film. I find that for such film, using the standard color profile in negafix combined with -3.0 exposure produces nice results.
