I'm actually giving talks at Normandy in a couple of months and am researching the dead. John A. Chappell, whose tombstone has flowers, is buried in Normandy, but the family also placed a marker in his hometown cemetery of Bernie, Missouri. There is a fair amount known about this modest man who died far too young: https://nhdsilentheroes.org/profiles/john-alden-chappell/ Edited January 12, 2024 by bags27 2

Having discovered how interesting this focal-length can be (less distortion than 21, more spacious than 28), would have loved to say that it was taken with the Leica Elmarit equivalent (R or M) but have you seen the prices? Maybe there is an opening there for the third-party lens makers? Edited January 13, 2024 by John Robinson

However Zeiss still has their excellent ZM 2,8/25 in the program! 1

Definitely not in the Leica Elmarit 2,8/24 or Leica Elmar 3,8/24 range ( I owned the former and own the latter ) , it is good enough and unbeatable concerning the size. They are scarce in Europe but plentiful in Japan. expect them to be hazy and factor in the cleaning. I bought a nice copy from a dealer in Vienna-think of a vulture in german- to avoid the hassle of customs etc. Recommended. K.

Two remarks: The Snap-Shot Skopar is not rangefinder coupled. Mainly this does not really matter, as the depth of field covers a lot. It works beautifully on the M, with a ltm-to-M adapter.

It would seem the name enables them to charge (for new lenses) close to the price of second-hand Leitz. Hmm ... For shooting on an M I am tempted to put my Nikkkor 24 onto the NikonF/Leica adapter and use scale focusing. On the R I can set the 21-25 ASPH at the 24 position but the size and weight of the lens does not add up to a lightweight/portable setup (one of the charms of the M or the Olympus OM for that matter).
