verwackelt Posted October 16, 2022 Share #83742 Posted October 16, 2022 I'm having a discussion with my friends. Does any of you know how much a 35mm film and a roll film as a color negative film cost around the early 90s? Approx. price at that time? I can not really remember because at that time i almost bought b&w Orwo Film from former GDR.

verwackelt Posted October 16, 2022 Share #83745 Posted October 16, 2022 Thank you very much! As I thought, color film wasn't very cheap these days either. Factoring in inflation and purchasing power, there was a reason why I could only afford the old Orwo films at the time. But i wish we have the choice of films today… R.I.P. I can't remember what I was paying for film in the early 90s (although I seem to remember that a 5- or 10-pack of Fuji or Kodak did not break the bank) but I can say that in the early 2000s I could pick up a 36-shot roll of Agfa XRG200 for GBP2 and my local minilab charged GBP1 for a process-only in its C41 chemistry. 20 years later Agfa is sadly gone but the cheapest C41 (without resorting to bulk-loading) I can find is around GBP8-10 (ECN2 is a bit cheaper, Ektar etc quite a lot more) and process-only is between GBP5 and GBP8. Combined film/processing cost increase of 500-600% in 20 years. That's quite an inflation rate. Perhaps supply and demand as the interest in film revives might drive down the cost of the film stock (or we resort to buying ECN2 in 400ft rolls, taking the unit price for a 36-shot down to about GBP2.50) but I can't see processing labs cutting their prices any time soon. Home-processing is another option but I have yet to tackle the logistical issues around the business of returning to dabbling in chemicals as opposed to taking pictures (despite vivid memories of being locked in a darkroom for a large part of the 1970s and 80s). 1 2

This was in early spring with bright green leaves; that may explain the tonality of the foliage. Apart from that: when I bought the MD2, it was more of an experiment-but the more I use it, the more I like it. It's a solid no nonsense tool; perfect for my clumsy hands. And with the SA 4/21 there is no need for fussy focussing... 1
