And her eyes... 5 hours ago, Kl@usW. said: Thank you, Rog. I think you put in a nutshell what the pleasure of the use of a Rollei TLR is about: the resilience of the classic design; resilience for good reasons: the 3-D finder, the view from a low angle, the stubborn and reliable mechanics.... About the Xenotar: viewing the negatives in LR, I don't have to look at the HB-notches to discern the origin of the negative--HB or Rollei. The modern Zeiss-HB-lenses have much more contrast, flatter field, are sharp even wide open--but: the rendering of the Xenotar is a nice variation I still have to fully understand. Still learning and finding out, but that's fun.. I guess your journey with the Tele-Rollei might be a similar pleasant experience. What a pleasure to see the chaos of the scene framed and thus put into order: the zig-zag of the pallets leading the eye to the strange and forlorn pole, more pallets suffering in their apparent uselessness carrying nothing, and then the center of the picture: a wild mixture of signs, witnesses of a time that is undoubtedly gone, only to be overwritten by even less important information, altogether merging into a cacophony screaming at us, but with a hoarse and exhausted voice not really getting to our ear. The eyes already have embarked on another round, pallets, pole, more pallets.... Thank you so much, Klaus, for your acute observation of my picture. I think you have helped me, here, understand that I am drawn to chaotic scenes like this because I wish to find or explore some kind of order in that chaos. Rog has indicated much the same thing. I really appreciate that, thank you! I also find your consideration of the qualities of the lenses on Rolleiflex TLRs vis-à-vis the Hasselblad lenses fascinating, and was always intrigued by the same thing. Once I've scanned a Rolleiflex TLR negative, there is something magical, mystical looking at the interaction of the tones, the grain, the in- and out-of-focus areas that I can't explain but which I find particularly delightful. It is somewhat there, albeit to a substantially lesser degree, with the contrastier Hasselblad and the Rolleiflex SLR negatives I'm playing with now. These are delightful in their own right (as, I'd add, are those negatives from other MF cameras I've used such as Mamiya, Fuji and Bronica) but there is just something particularly attractive about those older TLR negs - maybe it is a kind of nostalgia? Perhaps Rog, Wayne and others who've used various MF cameras, might have more to add. 1

Searching for the ducks though Wayne; did you fit Elmar yourself or came the Nagel Pupille with it ? As you can see, the camera does have its problems in the area of film transport. Nagel was one of few companies to which Leitz supplied lenses. There was also a 6x9 Nagel featuring an Elmar. I think these Nagel cameras pre-dated the Barnack Leicas, possibly giving Leitz an incentive to sell their lenses for use with other brands. I have a Welta Weltini with a 50/3.5 Elmar. As far as I know, there are no other common, mass produced cameras, other than Leicas, featuring Leitz lenses. Hope to post something with the 6x9 (120) Elmar in near future. Not only is it a very beautiful portrait, but so well executed. I like her position and expression and your framing. The bw work is excellent - the light skin tones and the nuances of dark tones in her hair are perfect. A pleasure to look at. :)) 1

I'm relieved the earth didn't tumble out of orbit when you brought that monster camera (I know from experience) so far south! Thank you. More to come. I took the Fuji GW690III, SL & SL2, 16-35 (little used) & 24-90 SL zooms, 1.4/35 Summilux-M, and Panasonic 4.0/70-200. Got all of it and general luggage to under 24kg! My wife told me it she would divorce me if I took a MF film camera again on a trip with two of us (ie three of us) 🙂

MarkP Posted April 24, 2021 Share #75615 Posted April 24, 2021 13 hours ago, Kl@usW. said: Impressive, Mark. Just one technical question: did you use a center ND filter or are you supposed to do so ? Thank you. No centre ND is needed for this camera, unlike the X-Pan. There is some vignetting at f4.0 but not relevant when cropping out the top and bottom for panoramas. I did intentionally vignette the edges and corners a little (maybe overdid it a bit 🙄) and will back this off but I wanted to tighten the drama. I had decided that almost all seascapes would be panoramas. These are 3:1 but think I may adjust them to X-pan ratio giving me 86 x 32mm neg size for printing (larger than X-pan negs of 65 x 24mm).

AntonioF Posted April 24, 2021 Share #75617 Posted April 24, 2021 I think Foma hates me. After a bad experience with 2 rolls of Foma 200 in 120, I shot a couple of rolls of Foma 400 with the Rolleiflex and the strips are full of white spots. They're regularly distributed, it cannot be dirt, also they look purple before the inversion. Fixer is good. I sent an email to Foma for advice. Somebody on the web suggests to prewash the roll for 20-30 mins before developing, but I want to see if they reply before processing more film. Anyway ... Rolleiflex Automat 2, Tessar 75/3.5, Foma 400 This abandoned limestone country house (in a typical local style) was pretty alive when my mother (now 79) was a kid. A bunch of people used to spend the whole summer in there. No running water, outside toilet and no 4G!!! I couldn't make it. Welcome, dear visitor!
