True Story:

This is my perfect set up last night for a lovely sunset with the sun overlapping with the Statue of Liberty.

I had my

Hassy 503cw,

the venerable 250 superachromat,

the German-made Hassy Mutar 2x teleconverter,

Provoa 100F,

Velvia 100,

a full suite of ND grad filters

My reliable Gitzo tripod

It was ON!

But wait! Where was my spotmeter?!?! At home, stupid!!

So it ended up being a trial run save for a one or two photos i may have salvaged based extrapolating from a reading i managed to obtain from the digital camera of a Chinese man who was shooting next to me. I needed Google translate for that conversation!

Of course, the reading on the digital camera wasnt plug in play in light of the fact that:

-i was shooting directly into the sun with SLIDE FILM

-with a 2 stop compensation required for the tele-converter

-plus the One and then two 3 and 2 stop medium ND grad filters i was using, with the precise true exposure adjustment unknown given that it was a medium grad and also bc the strength of these filters seems to tend to be weakened with the very long focal length.

On the bright side, the 500mm focal length was PERFECT! The extreme compression enlarged the sun to something surreal. I look forward to giving it another try with the links in the gear chain!

This is very captivating. I have seen so many attempts to do this photographer-being-photographed thing that, in my mind, it has become sort of gimmicky. You have accomplished it in a very artful manner. The young woman is not only beautiful, she appears to have a very unique sort of beauty. I have been returning to the photo over the past day...........I think it has something to do with her eyebrows. Thank you for posting.

Best

I like the different plans in this picture , with a mountain in a little blur ,a little fog

and clouds in background .  This nuance is not possible in digital  !  I have the same picture

taken with my M9.

I do have got this picture to show for today - a friend gave me this vintage camera. Very old, - lens is  4,8 / 105 G. Leitmeyr , München ( Munich) labelled and obturator is AGC ( Alfred Gauthier / Calmbach. The Back is a "Rada" back for 120 film. I think this was an "update" from the late 1920 or 1930s as I suppose this camera originally had a glass plate back. ( I suppose this as the camera has a wooden body).

I had to clean off the dust for days - with compressor/ airflow and soft brush and a lot of care. The lens is clean, the shutter times - astonishing - well functionning.

Here two pictures of what still goes with this vintage 80 or maybe 100 (?)  years old camera. Film was a 15 years over-the-date Ilford HP125 / 120 rollfilm. The most difficult thing is to see the subject through the vision lens. I know, these are no photographic masterpieces. But the pleasure to work with these venerable old cameras and to realize they still do their job after so many decades is a very special kind of experience.

Yes Adam with no lightmeter , not easy to photograph but sometimes we can forget  ......

I think with this sunset landscape with the Liberty Statue in background you must be

if you are at f/8 or a little less sp.expos at around 125

Impressive and solid equipment  ! Gitzo tripod is a serious and solid brand. I have one

but less big than yours
