Totally get you.  I was just thinking about the time the lens was initially released.   Lots of people did lab scans...

And I have to thank Steve Kessel when we went shooting in London. He had one, sold me on its virtues, went to Aperture they happened to have two, bought the one that looked cleaner, went back a couple of days later and the other was sold as well. Been poking around, not a lens often listed for sale at the usual dealers (Leicashop in Vienna is my main source that I trust via internet, K&M in NYC for in person)

Another in my Return to Film adventure. My daughter.

So much to learn, but this is getting closer to the look I'm hoping for from Tri-X and HC-110. This time much longer development time and much less agitation.

Very nice, John. What are you currently using for your developing routine?

Steve - Lovely photo.  I was doing some spare thinking about the theory behind the 40mm FL.  This is probably a bogus thought but I was thinking that it might have to do with the fact that lab prints tend to crop off part of the frame.  I was thinking that if you shoot with the 40mm but use the 50mm viewfinder frame to compose then your lab prints will not come out cropped!!

Lovely!

Christoph - Basically, the Provia had more EV range and much less of a wet paint look.  Given that we are looking at paint on a wall, why wouldn't everyone want a wet paint look, no matter what it looks like in person??!?!?

Another lovely photo!  I didn't even know about that place!

Nice, Keith.  The Ektar is noticeable sharper and crisper than Portra 400

Thanks, I agree :)

Right on :)

Great photo.  You've captured her essence quite well.

Philip - I just love that "throw your hat over the wall" story which JFK used in that speech you quoted.

Thank you, the Empire State Plaza and downtown Albany has some amazing architecture.

Dinner Reservations.

A small restaurant near the Campo Santa Maria Formosa in Venice. Oddly, the menu featured Scottish Salmon.

Leica has released the M Monochrome with the M9. It's a good and intelligent idea

The only camera brand that does this ! :)

I know now why ... the "purity" in photography

but you can have equivalent in film , if you shoot color with one camera

and b&w in another camera :)

My feeling is , it has something "unique" inside the nuance and the details :)

Here's  a proof black is real black and color is real color

To prove the "purity" and "softness" of film , I also took this picture with digital camera M

just for color comparison and ""softness" in the lines (no rasor cut lines)  :)

Best

Henry

I am jealous......Sure that you ate better a better meal than I did. :) I lived in Gaeta for a couple years; I can still taste it.

Ah Ah Ah! We actually just walked and left before dinner because the city police was not happy of my parking job, so I got mad and drove away! I had a caprese (tomato and mozzarella) at home.

Outer Hebrides.

Hasselblad 503CW

Zeiss 50mm f4 cfi

Fuji Acros 100 in APH09

It took me some time to find the (for me) right words to hint at why this picture speaks to me.

I myself often opt for a rather expressive style in b/w, which works for what I want to show. However, in this age of digital postprocessing, the danger of overdoing it, of crossing the fine line of good taste, is always imminent.

Your picture does not shout, it whispers. Beautiful.

Kind regards

Mathias

I pushed some HP5 to 1600 in Locorotondo. It's summertime and there's a lot of sun light in southern Italy, but we also go out more in the evenings, so pushing is useful.

I will, I built my first one at age 15 in a closet provided to me by my boarding school, my second was in my parents utility room in my late teens when I still lived at home. My third was in a bedroom of a rental apartment in my very early 30s, it could only be used after dark as there were light leaks all over the place.

My fourth I hope to be in a purpose built room with dust control filtration built in.

Thanks Henry. HP5 works well at 1600. I'll probably be in Seattle in August and I'm still debating if getting Trix or HP5 for the trip and if shooting stock or pushing to 1600 ... maybe Trix400 stock is the safer solution ... classic American look
