So my friends are some of my photos of my second visit to Leica. The first a couple of years ago was for their centenary celebrations. I did not have a proper Leica then, just the Typ 109. I caught a bug back then that just needed an antidote.

Here some shots of the outside of the "temple" of Leica to begin. These are with the M6 TTL.

And who cannot resist a coffee break at Leitz Café when Leica customer services offer to pay.

Henry you are welcome to edit my colour casts anytime- you have my respect.

Next up the exhibition hall.

Regards

Christopher

So to the exhibition hall and the Elliott Erwitt exhibition.

And the exhibition of these wonderfully humorous photos, so well thought out, you have to admire the thinking before the execution of the photo taking.

And then of course there is the camera exhibition, but I had shot this before, so these had to be something different I had not taken before, or messed up two years earlier....

The exhibition of Leica cameras in Wetzlar is breathtaking. If only they weren't in glass boxes.

And finally Max Berek

And then there is the long dark corridor where you get a glimpse of the inner sanctum....

So to my final few shots taken on this visit inside the Leica temple.

I think these are the first sketches and ideas of the Ur Leica.

Then a glimpse inside the factory floor.

And some cameras. Henry one with soul and another with some strange interior?

Hope you've enjoyed. I have a lot more from my first visit, but they are not film, and neither are these close-up, or shots in the dark. I hope you will forgive this last little series.

Kind regards

Christopher

Thank you, sincerely, gnuyork, Adam and Henry - and to everyone who acknowledged my picture.

Adam, your photograph of Magic Hour from Central Park NYC is absolutely stunning. Such beautiful colour and balance. As I think I've said before, I imagine the SWC is a very difficult camera to use effectively - in my opinion, not even Lee Friedlander has been able to get it right all that often - but you use it exceptionally well. Bravo!

I thought the following could be of interest as it's about two Leica photographers who shoot film. The color photography that I've been particularly struck by is that of ioulex, a duo of a Russian woman an American man who met while studying at the Parsons School of Design in Paris. Working out of New York and Paris, they do commercial work in fashion, beauty and celebrity.  As revealed in an interview on the Leica blog they love to shoot film with their M6 and M3 cameras. I saw this portrait of Isabelle Huppert in the New Yorker, and then did a web search and saw the exiting color work that they've done — I also like their black-and-white. Their work is highly creative, often with out-of-focus elements, wild colors and great fluidity — the sort of elements that often make other photographers throw away an image.

I'm normally not interested in commercial photography of fashion/beauty/celebrity, but the remarkable thing is that the ioulex commercial work looks like it could be personal work. Here is another portrait of Isabelle Huppert as well as a double portrait here. You can see the broad range of their work on the ioulex website.

Now to my own, more prosaic photography: below are two more shots using Portra 400 pushed 2 stops— I'd like to be able to do something more creative with color film in the direction of ioulex, but not sure how to get there. (Actually, I wish that my black-and-white work were edgier than it is — along the lines of, say, Michael Ackerman and Paulo Nozolino.)

The Band's back together!

I've resurrected my 35 year old F1N and FD 17mm combo that suffered in jungles and crossed seas, mountains, and mountainous seas back in the 80's and 90's...

Apologies for the digital shots, but they were on a M246, so I shouldn't get slapped too hard. I'm very happy to have my old friend back with me. Now I just need Kodachrome to join the revival...

I, too, am a huge fan of the F1N (I have two). They seem to make a pretty good complement to the rangefinder Leicas.

This combo must bring back some great memories, and of course the photos...

From my archives - a fifty year old Agfachrome. Canon FT. Will our current (digital) images be as easily viewed in 2067? An oft-raised question!
