Very nice one, Phil. A brilliant example of abstract colour photography.

In a somewhat similar vein.

Continuing on the minimalist theme.

Thanks for this. It is a spectacular photo. I guess part of my fascination is connected to my familiarity and fondness for old pickups: every time I see one I am tempted to shoot. Outstanding eye! :)  I just shot a roll of Fuji 400H; this encourages me to just stick with Ektar.

Thank you sincerely Philip and Wayne. The generosity of comment on this forum is outstanding.

Great to see a couple more "abstract" and "minimalist" colour pictures coming up too. I really  very much like the ones you have posted, Philip and Henry.

Wayne, there certainly is something about old pick-up trucks isn't there? Perhaps they hark back to a bygone era or something. But they are also, I guess, unpretentious work tools, and are therefore fairly "genuine" and usually quite picturesque in that unrefined sort of wabi-sabi way. anyway, there are plenty of them there in the Southwest, as I'm sure you know. As for the Ektar, I'm a little unsure about it myself, although I feel it worked quite well in this picture. I find I'm generally pretty happy with Portra for colour. Anyway, i really appreciate your comment - thank you.

(edit I just realized you are from Indiana, Wayne, which is quite a long way from the Southwest - sorry about that - geographically challenged is my excuse).

Philip,

A lovely and genuine expression on the childs face, and I like how the film captured the soft light.

Did you follow a workshop of Mary Ellen Mark in Oaxaca?

Thank you so much Christoph for your kind words.

Yes, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to meet and learn from Mary Ellen in Oaxaca that year. We kept in contact up to her death, and my wife and I had dinner with her in Sydney the year after this was taken. She is someone I miss very much and her passing leaves a great hole in the photographic community, as well as the world of really lovely people. She liked this picture though!

Did you attend a workshop with her, Christoph?

Philip,

It looks as if your time in Oaxaca was well spend :) . I much like MEM's work, and would have loved to partake in one of her workshops, but alas life had other plans. I did get her book " on the portrait and the moment" this Xmas, and enjoy leafing through it.

I like all Adam. The M-A gives a nice touch to the pictures you showed.

That's I call  the "M-A effect" Independently of the lenses ! color , exposure

and definition are superb :)

Thanks Adam

The way the film (Fuji Superia 400) has captured the afternoon sunlight spilling across everything is a big yes for me. Yes!

Coogee, to whom do you say?

You know 40 years of photo , we start to differentiate nevertheless the color, the "true" color

without correction.

If some do not differentiate , they compare (with digital photos) , and they will see.

I stopped buying digital for this reason.

The color in this picture is wonderful and in addition in " contre-jour"

Effect 3D on my Eizo screen ! amazing relief  :)

Thanks for posting

Best H.

Thank you Terence for your kind comment , in macro-photo the wind even a small wind

makes the subject move and it is necessary to wait until the wind stops. I like patience

because we are is in full nature and it allows to relax :)The macro images in film are

"softer" not aggressive (non-cutting edge like in digital) and the color is faithful.

Best

Henry

Thank you again so much, Christoph. It's funny that you mention that book - five or six of the photographers in it were at the same workshop as the one I attended, and I even offered suggestions to Laurie for her introduction. What Mary Ellen says in the book is very precious though, exactly the things she would say to us at the workshop. I know what you mean about life having other plans. Sometimes, though, all the stars align and some wonderful opportunities crop up - hopefully soon for you.

Again, Henry, thank you so much for your kind, supportive and considered thoughts. Mary Ellen directed us in certain ways - she told me I should go out and find a family to photograph - so I did! Couldn't believe it when it happened, but that's just a part example of the kind of belief she was able to instill in people.
