A miller Posted March 17, 2016 Share #12604 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) I shared a version of this shot a couple of months ago that I took with my M3 and 135 tele elmar and tmax. It was ok but nothing to really make a decent print from. I have gone back to this place a couple of times since then with my 6x9 film and have concluded that the best film to take this shot with is.....PORTRA 800.... Why? Because the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian path it wobbles like a trampoline! So any photograph taken early or late in the day (which is when the good light comes) taken with film requires serious speed, even with the best ripped (like my Gitzo). Couple this with the long focal length that is needed to capture this scene (which is rather far away) and an even faster shutter is needed (I used a 180mm MF lens and shot this at 1.250, which sounds really fast but I think was just fast enough). I had nearly every kind of color film in my bag and when it came time to pop one open, the Portra 800 won out. The shot is grainy...but so be it...and embrace it! wattsy Posted March 17, 2016 Share #12608 Posted March 17, 2016 I picked up some BW400CN today. Is anyone else still shooting this stock? Yes, I use it occasionally and still have about a dozen rolls in the freezer. It seems a bit less contrasty than XP2 or Neopan 400 CN (an XP2 clone) but I'm no longer so bothered about its discontinuation because, for C41 black and white, I quite like using colour C41 film and converting in post. Guest Posted March 17, 2016 Share #12610 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) I picked up some BW400CN today. Is anyone else still shooting this stock?I played with a few rolls of this last year, but came to the conclusion that it gives pretty much the same results as XP2. Your mileage may vary on that, but then again Kodak may have came to the same conclusion before they decided to discontinue it. The pickies below are of a similar tree, but with different exposure ideas. And the second one taken a year later. See what you think. lleo Posted March 17, 2016 Share #12611 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Here's a try I did. Same subject shot in three different ways: Leica with Summaron 3,5, Fuji X-E2 with Summaron 35mm (though it becomes a 52mm) and Fuji X-E2 with the infamous Voigtländer 21mm (a 31mm in full format). I used the medium yellow filter with the Leica and I've set up the Fuji in the same way using the Voigtländer lens. The second has a different FOV, obviously, and I've shot them about the same time, with one hour difference more or less. Which one is better? Hey Doc?
