zombii Posted May 29, 2013 Share #1  Posted May 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Be warned that this item on Ebay is almost certainly a scam.  Leica Noctilux M 50mm F 0 95 50 0 95 ASPH | eBay  The lens shown is the same lens (serial number and pix) that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I haven't received it yet although there's a package that I have a tracking number for in transit. I spoke to Ebay about it today and they said I'm protected if it doesn't show up or if it isn't as advertised. They made a report about this ad but since it hasn't been removed yet., let potential buyers beware.

As long as there is a package delivery verified the seller is covered. I advise you to open the package in front of the delivery person.  This is a VERY common scam. People will sell you something and send a box full of junk. I bought a lens and this happened to me. eBay wouldn't do anything about it and the seller cancelled their account the next day.  Good luck, but don't count on eBay to come through. Guest rivercityrocker Posted May 29, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted May 29, 2013 And HOLY SHIT! You sent $7000 to someone with a brand new account and 2 feedbacks that are only a day old?!? The two feedbacks are for $1 parts. Â Good luck to you...

As for the number of feedbacks, there were 21 when I made the purchase. Somehow it got changed to two after the fact. I'm not dumb enough to buy something like this from someone with two feedbacks. Obviously, I made a mistake but I put this up to keep anybody else from doing the same, not to tell me how I screwed up.

Have you tried contacting the seller who you bought from? Chances are that the 'new' account has been hijacked. It would be most unusual for a scammer to give you tracking number or send an empty parcel, they just take the money and run.  Can I ask did you pay via paypal? Chances are that the 'new' account has been hijacked. It would be most unusual for a scammer to give you tracking number or send an empty parcel, they just take the money and run. Â Can I ask did you pay via paypal? Â We had several contacts right after he shipped it when there seemed to be a hold by Chronopost in France that was related to the paperwork. That got resolved and it moved and is currently in Miami. It's been there since last Friday so I'm not sure what the holdup is unless it's sitting in Customs. I've seen things sit in Customs for longer than expected at times so this isn't a total shock. Of course, I'm pretty antsy about it but the estimated arrival on Ebay was between 5/28 and 6/4. I can't even open a case with Ebay unless I get it and it isn't what it's supposed to be or unless it doesn't get here in the prescribed time. I haven't tried again because I was getting messages in French and/or English that had been translated by Google translate and the understanding was patchy at best. Â I did pay with Paypal. I almost never pay for anything on Ebay or on any forum with anything other than Paypal.

earleygallery Posted May 29, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted May 29, 2013 Fingers crossed for you. I've had a couple of 'no shows' for stuff I bought on ebay, paid by paypal and they backed up their protection promise each time, so you should be fine if the worst happens. Â Scammers usually ask for payment by western union or bank transfer.
Paul J Posted May 29, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted May 29, 2013 Ugh. Sorry to hear. Fingers crossed for you. Â Given that the photo shows quite a bit of wear to the barrel but the description reads it has a mint barrel says to me it's a scam.

They promised me I'd be reimbursed too. But with the sellers verification that a package was delivered they said "Sorry, you could have just kept the lens and said the package was empty." If you claim it's "Not As Described" that means you have to send back a LENS that isn't how it was described.  You can out your faith in eBay and PayPal, but they have screwed over more than a few people I know by siding with scammers.  If your PayPal draws from a credit card you might be able to get your credit card company to take action. But, speaking from experience eBay and PayPal will screw you.  I seriously hope that doesn't happen to you. I was sincere when I said good luck. I actually bought a lens and did receive and empty box (had a heavy object instead). I had to file a police report and send back the empty box back. Got money back. Alternatively you can file a chargeback if your Paypal used credit card. You do have to file an "item not as described" complaint though, not an "item not delivered". This transaction is totally safe and I would not worry at all. As a seller on eBay, you do have to worry. I have purchased and sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of stereo and photography equipment on eBay so know the system well.

The auction that he linked to in his original post is the scam, not the auction where he purchased the lens.  The seller in the above link - mr810000 , most probably is the scammer who lifted the images from the auction that 'zombii' won. 'mr810000's only previous eBay activities are purchases of two electronic parts for $3.00. And he claims to be liquidating his Leica collection? I'm not wrong.  eBAY FU¢KED me and they've done the same to more than a few others I know.  The difference here may be when this happened to you. Ebay has become increasingly buyer oriented in the last couple of years. I've sold my share of items (including a Noctilux) and their rules for sellers have become increasingly more strict. I think they had enough buyers get scammed that their reputation was starting to suffer. In any case, if and when a package shows up, I'm going to make the delivery guy wait while I open it and I'm going to video it as well. They told me I didn't need to do that but I'm going to do it anyway just in case.
doubice Posted May 30, 2013 Share #17 Â Posted May 30, 2013 But....... Â The plot thickens. Â Something is definitely rotten here and I truly hope that 'zombii' gets his lens...... Or - compensation from eBay or PayPal...... You are, however, stating that if the package is delivered regardless of what is in it, that ebay will side with the seller. This is absolutely untrue, and I'm happy to wager a large sum of money that you are incorrect!  It sounds like you filed a "item not delivered" claim when it should have been "item not as described." INAD claims are almost impossible to defend against as a seller! If this isn't what happened to you feel free to post your experience to help the OP avoid your experience but I would feel 100% certain that the OP will get his money back. 100%, regardless of what happened in your case, if he files the claim correctly and follows the steps that are outlined by ebay.
