Guest rivercityrocker Posted May 25, 2013 Share #21 Posted May 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Both original hoods don't cause any problems with filters! Since the older versions of the lens need 43mm-filters it might be difficult to find an UV/IR-filter for the M8. If you don't find them in your country or in the buy-and-sell-section this address could help perhaps: http://www.foto-huppert.de/default2.asp Finding a 43mm filter isn't a problem at all. (I've got 3 of them already), but I guarantee you that with the filter attached to the lens the hood will not properly clip on.
Advertisement Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Hi Guest rivercityrocker, Take a look here Summilux 50mm f/1.4 Pre-ASPH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted May 28, 2013 Share #22 Posted May 28, 2013 The hood works fine with Leitz E43 filters, because they also had the cutout for the hood to clip onto. But of course, that doesn't help with UV/IR-cut filters since Leica didn't supply those in E43. [EDIT: lct corrected me on this in the next post.] Glad you discovered that general-purpose filters aren't compatible with the Leitz hoods before you damaged a hood trying to mount it, as I did! ho_co Posted May 28, 2013 Share #24 Posted May 28, 2013 My gosh! I had no idea! Thanks, lct! I don't remember E43s being on the list when I signed up for my free filters with the M8. I wonder if they include the notch for the hood grip. Sure looks like it! That would solve the opening poster's problem at one fell swoop! I need to do more research! Guest rivercityrocker Posted May 30, 2013 Share #26 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi Howard, they did and still do apparently.Leica E43 UVA/IR Glass Filter (Silver) 13417 B&H Photo Video Yeah, I skipped right over that one when I was buying a filter because the B+W one was $100 less. I didn't consider that it would be slotted to take the hood. In any case that hood is way too big and blocks too much of the viewfinder for me. If anyone is interested it's for sale on eBay. colorflow Posted May 30, 2013 Share #27 Posted May 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder if they include the notch for the hood grip.... The filter has the notch/groove to accept the original hood. Also the old slim Leitz 43mm UV filter has a smaller diameter for the hood to clear.
