Advertisement Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hi sblitz, Take a look here London -- Short Visit, Time for One Store. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted May 13, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted May 13, 2013 Red Dot, Aperture, RG Lewis, Richard Caplan and The Classic Camera (if you can put up with their service - suggest you search for threads on here first and decide for yourself) are all good places for s/h gear. Â They're all pretty close so you should be able to visit more than just the one.
sblitz Posted May 13, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 13, 2013 thanks -- do any tend to have a broader/deeper selection of used equipment?
andybarton Posted May 13, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted May 13, 2013 RedDot have a wide selection as do RGLewis. Check that RedDot are open the weekend you are there. They do close on some Saturdays.
earleygallery Posted May 14, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted May 14, 2013 All of the above carry a good selection, perhaps Aperture (on my last visit anyway) had the least amount of items, but it's a great store/cafe and worth checking out (there are now two branches, one which specialises in Leica which is off Oxford Street). Â Have fun!
roydonian Posted May 14, 2013 Share #6  Posted May 14, 2013 Red Dot will not be open on the Saturday. But assuming you are free on Sunday 19 May, you should visit the Photographica camera fair in London. There should be a fair amount of Leica stuff on show.  See Photographica Fair for details, and for a video of the 2011 event. The only problem is that although it opens mid-morning, the aisles are so crowded that it’s near-impossible to move around and see what’s available. I now plan to arrive at the show around mid-day, by which time it's a bit less crowded.  Best regards,  Doug
roydonian Posted May 14, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted May 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) OOPS - I've just realised that you will be in London on the week beginning May 20, so will be free on the weekend AFTER Photographica. One of hazards of being a magazine editor is that I am currently working on my July edition, so get a bit out-of-touch with what today's date is! Â Best regards, Â Doug
sblitz Posted May 14, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted May 14, 2013 doug -- thanks so much for the info. you had the dates correct the first time. i will be in London this coming T,F,S,S but, alas, Thur and Fri are for work. Can't complain, small price to get to London on someone else's dime, as the expression goes.
roydonian Posted May 14, 2013 Share #9  Posted May 14, 2013 If you are going to be working in the UK Thursday and Friday, you are probably en route to the airport by now. But if you read this message, and make it to Photographica on Sunday, check the upstairs café area around 3.30, by which time I’m usually have a well-earned rest from my aisle-wandering. I’ll buy you a beer in one of the nearby pubs.  And if my memory is right, Caplan and R G Lewis are only open in the morning on Saturdays.  Best regards,  Doug

BrianUK Posted May 14, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted May 14, 2013 +1 for RG Lewis. Â Bought my first camera - a Pentax SL - from them in 1966, I think, when they supplied test negs with each camera. Â Been a customer ever since. Unfailing courtesy and assistance.

Doug and I amused ourselves upstairs for about half an hour at 3.30 in case you were going to show but maybe next time.  Pete.
sblitz Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #15 Â Posted May 21, 2013 it was a shame......got a late start on the day and ended up spending a lot of time at the sagaldo exhibit. i was absolutely floored by it. hope it comes to nyc so i can see it again. most times i see photo exhibits outside of fashion/studio work, i usually say "yeah i can do that, etc", but not this time. Â apologies again for not getting over there. if you get to nyc let me know, i owe you both some beer. Â steve
