drolfe Posted April 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M9 has suddenly begun re-using file numbers. I discovered the problem when I tried to move new files into my Recent Image folder on my desktop, and got a popup window saying the files already existed and did I want to overwrite them. Any ideas? drolfe

erl Posted April 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2013 Coming out of left field, may I suggest generating a unique number for each image as you transfer. Something useful like using the date, reversed, such that searching on the computer can be done on the basis of when it was taken, along with other useful tags. Eg. My first pic today will be transfered to computer as; 2003 04 24 - 01. Text can be included after the date as desired. Most software will automate this for you as a batch during transfer, or later. Returning to your direct problem, more qualified comment than mine will certainly appear shortly.
Fgcm Posted April 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2013 Try this Shoot a picture Put the SD card into your computer and rename the file. Example: L1010000.DNG You can choose any number you like provided the length of the file name does not change. Put the SD back in your camera and shoot another picture. New file should be named L1010001.DNG This should set the counter to the file numbering you like It should work. I cannot test it as I sold my M9 when I got the new M, but I remember I'd worked. jaapv Posted April 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2013 Use Imageingester. That will tag each file with a numbering system of your choice. And add copyright info etc.

New file should be named L1010001.DNG This should set the counter to the file numbering you like It should work. That's essentially what I do but I think it is slightly more complicated than your instructions – you have to reset file numbering in the camera menu and also (I think) the folder number on the SD card and do it all in a particular order. It's a procedure I find myself going through whenever my camera has been serviced and Leica have reset the menu but I can't offhand remember the exact steps and order. A search for "file numbering Leica M9" on Google usually provides the answer.
jwcane.enw Posted August 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2013 So, there is no way to access the camera electronics in order to adjust the numbering? No third-party software with which to accomplish this? I have sent an email on this topic, to Leica USA, will post any interesting responses.
250swb Posted August 17, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think it is good management to transfer the files to a new folder each time and give them a unique title of your own, in which case it hardly matters if the actual file number is duplicated, it can never be unique. I give each days work a new folder number (and title and date) and each file number has that folder number preceding it. Steve
