I told them what had happened, and they referred me to Leica Camera Asia Pacific...located at the International Building on Orchard Road.... It was Leica Camera Asia Pacific that told me they are going to charge 700 dollars to have the sensor replaced, not the dealer (Cathay Photo)...they emailed me today saying that they don't have the sensor in stock, and I will have to wait at least two months for the replacement to be installed. Shall I go back and get my camera from them, and then send it to Germany, instead? Woud that, in a sense, be "skipping over the chain in command" ? Advice?? I had retrieved my camera from the Singapore office, and told them I was going to send it directly to Germany in hopes of getting the sensore fixed for free. To send my Leica to Germany, however, is no easy task. A performa invoice is required along with some other paper work that is pretty daunting. I also had a problem with my M9 being shipped back to me in Jakarta. I would have some extreme customs issues with Indonesia....would have cost me possibly thousands of dollars... SO...I brought the camera back to the Singapore office. There was a different lady behind the desk this time. I explained the situation to her....told her I paid over 11,000 Sing Dollars for my beloved M9, and thought it should certainly last much longer than three years...I took very good care of my camera, and it wasn't ME that broke my sensor...it was Leica's fault and really thought Leica should replace the faulty sensor for free. She said she would discuss the situation with her manager, and get back to me later in the afternoon. She called me back a few hours later with the good news. Leica will replace my sensor for FREE. Ah, my faith in Leica has been restored!! The only problem is the time...she said it won't be ready until sometime in June....but, seriously, I can live with that. That's fair - I'll admit that Leica (Germany) seems to take care of these incidents when they occur. I am remiss for not returning and telling the story - for what it's worth. BH Photo stood by the used warranty and instructed Leica New Jersey to make whatever repairs were needed. I called Leica NJ myself, supplied a sample image to aid in their diagnostics. They seemed to have had to do a full disassembly of my M9 and confirmed it was a bad sensor. They replaced it in short order and sent it back to me. The *only* regret is that that they replaced the Vulcanite skin with the leather skin. Apparently the Vulcanite is no longer in supply or produced. So my M9 looks like later M9P's but the even stealthier matte black is starting to appeal to me.
