To me R adapter is about the simplest of all accessories. Let's hope the new Portuguese factory can make them by the thousands soon. OK, maybe by the hundreds, but SOON.

My guess is that they will be made in Wetzlar by Weller.

Maybe Weller is making a redesigned M-R adapter which resembles our nice R telephoto adjustable lens mounts allowing rotation from portrait and landscape etc. That would negate having to use an L bracket for lighter R lenses and make using the GPS handgrip easily possible.

An adapter with rotation like an OUBIO would be really nice.

To all the people who are patiently awaiting their M-240, I empathize with you and beg indulgence to complain about what is, comparatively, a minor issue. But sheesh, nine months since the camera was announced, and 3.5 months since the first ones landed on our shores, they still haven't gotten out the door the R Adaptor and various hand grips? I am generally a Leica apologist, but this strikes me as pretty inept. Especially if, as is suggested, these accessories are being made by a third party.

One of the promises of the M was that you could use your R lenses, and yes, with a Leica adaptor. Yes, I have a third-party adaptor. But still....

And again, for those waiting for the camera, I realize this is a pretty spoiled whine. Forgive me.

Hi John,

I feel for you.

Maybe it's not worth producing these other items knowing there aren't enough M240s around?

Still waiting for mine. But I have a battery charger! Hurrah! :D

I don't always get you guys. My Sony RX1 started to trickle into dealers in December, but I couldn't get an EVF until March. What is the big deal all about? Leica is a small company. Maybe, the firmware isn't ready yet. l can wait. The M is the nicest 35mm camera ever made, IMHO. The future looks bright. :)

Rick, I always appreciate your posts but why would any of them be released if the Firmware wasn't up to par? After thought? Maybe.

But the grips, R adapter etc are probably being made by a separate manufacturer. Whay have absolutely none made it out the door?

Finally, maybe it's my suspicious nature, but is the lug issue truly a potential loose lug issue? Was it a way to get these cameras back to fix the pre-March release? When you think of it, no-one is really arguing about the lug thing because it is obviously a safety/potential damage issue. Following that train of thought, I have no idea what the other issue could be.

Because, the grip does several different things that are dependent on the camera's firmware, like geo tagging. Maybe, there will be firmware update coincident with the grip release. There is no menu that relates to the grip... like turn off/on geotagging. I do know that Jono had GPS info in his meta data, so maybe it works fine. I typed it in to google and looked down at his house from the satellite. I could see all of those places he went on walks with his dogy. :D

Always possible, but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

p.s. I also enjoy reading your posts. You can be way out there sometimes (and that is a compliment).

Wait a minute Rick, Page 4 of the menu, next to last item says "GPS"-you can turn it on and off in the menu-see Manual p.199.

Spare batteries are now in stock in Singapore. Did not need to reserve as the shop had a handful.

Spare batteries also showed up in Seoul, Korea at the Leica dealer Bondo Camera. They cost $200 each when I convert Korea Won into US Dollars at the current exchange rate.

Sounds like battery availability is following the same availability curve as the M240 when they first started trickling out. Singapore, then Korea, then ....

Whereas there is some excuse for the handgrip with possibly fiddly electronics and the need for those to meld seamlessly with those in the camera, which may well need FW tweaks, there is no excuse at all for the missing R to M adapters. These are a relatively simple painted lump of metal, which any competent machine shop could turn out in quantity. OK a lot of us are managing pro tem, either with old R to M adapters (have you seen the price they are fetching on Fleabay) or Mr. Wong's back alley specials. However the latter are not very well made, with incorrect radial alignment and cannot activate the R menu, as none of them bring up the 28/90 framelines, so hand coding as 110111 will not work.

Leica have sold us this camera as an R lens solution but without these adapters, it isn't. As Jaap said, they may well be being outsourced to Weller Feinwerktechnik in Wetzlar, so why are they not pouring out in large numbers? I really don't understand it.

I'm wondering if anyone has coded their existing R adapter to bring up the menu of lenses. The adapter is as Wilson says entirely mechanical but the lens code does activate new firmware functions and I'm wondering if they are tweaking - or even still writing - this firmware. Do we know for sure if any image corrections are applied with any of the 20 "supported" lenses?
