Since gotten my M on 28 Feb 2013, there has been no news on the availability of the Multifunction Handgrip, R Lens adapter and spare batteries.

I had a written reply from my local Leica store that availability is June 2013.

Anyone out there with a better availability date? Why can't Leica supply simple items such as Multifunction Handgrip, R Lens adapter and spare batteries to M buyers?

There are no firmware beta testing issues on these accessories, what can be the delay? Don't Leica want to make more revenue by selling no brainer accessories to leica M buyers? Leica, are you listening?

With complete empathy for those waiting for their cameras, here is what I know, having talked to two dealers, about the wait for accessories. As of last week, they had no new information about batteries, hand grips, R adapters, etc. It is frustrating for those of us waiting for accessories, but admittedly, more frustrating to be waiting for the camera itself...

Leica dealers in France have received a letter from Leica about accessories availability. This letter states that accessories will be available starting mid-April for batteries and charger through mid-May for handgrip and cases.

Popflash has the new battery (whenever it arrives) priced at $190. Not going to be buying a handful at that price.

It's Leica, to be expected. They last many years so the money spent is not wasted on a short term item.

I see on the German price list I got at Photokina the battery #14499 is priced at €120, so the Leica prices levels that makes USD190. The extra charger #14494 I just got was USD160 and the German price list shows €100. I know the exchange rate is not and has never been 1,60 during or after Photokina so that exchange rate is very favorable to Leica.

Now I am getting worried about the Multi-function Hand Grip #14495 USD price as the German price shows €750 and the German R-M adapter #14642 is priced at €250. If these earlier two prices above are any indication then the combination of these last two items could come to more than USD1500! Ouch.

I find the lack of accessories inexplicable......

They must have been designed and ready to roll for months .....

They don't need last minute firmware adjustments or mechanical tweaks.

Leica should have a warehouse full of these somewhere .... I cannot believe the delay has anything to do with production delays or problems.....

HI there

I think there are firmware implications with the grip - dunno about the batteries.

. . . . . if you need an adapter now, then just get a cheap chinese one which brings up 28/90 and code by hand . . . . and if you can't find one of those, then get one which brings up any old framelines, code it as a 50 'cron and snap away. Hopefully Novoflex have been watching, and their M/R adapters will now bring up the 28/90 rather than 50/75 framelines.. . . . . . . hopefully!

all the best

I completely agree. Trying to figure this out. They likely are buying the batteries from a third party, but six weeks after the camera was shipped, they should have some to distribute. But as for the adapter and grips? It is very strange not have them available in their dealer channel six weeks out...

The slow rollout of the camera is frustrating but explicable: they are making them as fast as they can. But hand grips? They've had the specs on them since weeks, if not months, before photokina...

Even the old 22228/500934 works for me except it will not take ROM lenses. I have coded it over and over (BBWBBB) but still cannot get the R lens list to show even though it brings up 28/90 frame lines. Argh!

I do have the older 22228/500924 R to M adapter that I purchased from Luigi C about 5 years ago and I coded it with a magic marker for the black and no mark for the white and the 28/90 frame came up and in the menu all the R lenses came up. I have not removed it since as it may not work the second time. So do not give up on the coding, it took me a few times but it did work. I am only using my R lens now and amazed at the performance of the APO 280/2.8 and the APO 2.8/100 on the M. Google the adaptor R to M and there is a photo of the adaptor for the M (typ 240) with the code. Before seeing that I was not able to get it correct as I had the code reversed! I also am using ROM lenses on this adaptor and have no problem mounting them and the two and three cam lenses. I do not have any one cam lens so I cannot speak for them.
