andyedward Posted March 24, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted March 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am close to the point where I intend to stop buying cameras and lenses forever:eek:. Money tends to burn a hole in my pocket, and what better a hole than leica?! But I am frustrated at my lack of self control; I have spent too much money on photography in the last few years and need a break! Its not like I dont need the money for more sensible, pressing matters. Â I have an MP plus 35 lux, and an R9 with a 100/2,8. My next and hopefully last purchases will be an M6 and a 50 lux, so I'll have a decent spread of focal lengths from very good lenses. Â Am I fooling myself that I'll be able to stop?! Â Is anyone else in a similar situation?!

masjah Posted March 24, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted March 24, 2013 Yes. You'll convince yourself that you'll also need something longer for the R9, as well as something even wider for the M. Just imagine the enhanced photographic possibilities - and that's just for starters.

AlanJW Posted March 24, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted March 24, 2013 The end of GAS is not possible. It is a chronic condition that may be alleviated but not cured. Those who have it can do one of two things: moan and complain and wring ther hands or smile and enjoy the ride.

The only currently known cure is to purchase a Monochrom and a 50/2 Apo, and a....., and, ad infinitum! Oh god, I'm completely fkd, aren't I ?! philipus Posted March 25, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted March 25, 2013 My next and hopefully last purchases will be an M6 and a 50 lux, so I'll have a decent spread of focal lengths from very good lenses. Â One of the best "features" of Leica equipment is that it is easy to recover costs by selling it on. So one can buy and try without much loss. Â One of the worst, but at the same time most delicious, "features" of Leica equipment is that it is difficult to actually take the decision to sell it. Â Having said, that I am wondering why you'd need the M6. I know you had one on loan before the MP arrived so I can understand why you'd want one, but now the MP's here why the M6? They're arguably as similar as M cameras can be, size- feature-, and operation-wise. I'd skip that one. Â I do, whole-heartedly, agree that the 50 Asph is a must-have lens for a film photographer. It was the first lens I bought and I can't tell how many times this lens has surprised me. It shines in literally any situation, from the darkest indoors surroundings to the brightest days outside. It is outstanding. Â Now, a word of advice, don't, whatever you do, buy a Barnack!
250swb Posted March 25, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted March 25, 2013 It seems like you have limited your thinking to miniature cameras. Go to sleep counting Hasselblads or Speed Graphic's and see what you are thinking about when you wake up. That should cure you of AGAS (not a desire to collect cookers but 'anti-Gas'). andyedward Posted March 25, 2013 Author Share #11  Posted March 25, 2013 One of the best "features" of Leica equipment is that it is easy to recover costs by selling it on. It was the first lens I bought and I can't tell how many times this lens has surprised me. It shines in literally any situation, from the darkest indoors surroundings to the brightest days outside. It is outstanding.  Now, a word of advice, don't, whatever you do, buy a Barnack!  Philipus,  My MP is a .72x and a 35 lux is welded to it, whilst the M6 would be a .85x and paired with the 50 lux in order to increase the size of the framelines. I've seen a nearly mint M6 .85x on Ffordes' website for far less money than an equivalent secondhand MP or M7. If money were no object I'd order an a la carte MP .85x in red and chrome (just kidding). I prefer having separate cameras for each lens, which is obviously more convenient, but also reduces dust ingress and wear to the mount(?!)  I have coveted the 50 lux for a while and only chose the 35 because I had sufficient funds at the time. The 50 has to be a contender for the "biggest-bang-per-buck" M lens title. I recall the first time I looked at an M lens pricelist: I thought "WTF, no lens is worth that much money", but a 100/2,8 R led me astray and my wallet continues to carry the burden of of that decision! Despite their comparatively high cost, some M lenses are good value.  I look at images of large camera and lens collections posted on this forum and wonder how their owners find the time to use them all. I'd rather sell the equipment I dont use to fund the stuff I do need.
wattsy Posted March 25, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted March 25, 2013 also reduces dust ingress and wear to the mount(?!) Â I can't imagine how many times you'd need to change lenses before mount wear became an actual problem.
