Guest Posted February 8, 2014 Share #241 Posted February 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, Came back from Istanbul with two SD cards, 1. Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb and 2. Panasonic Exercia Type 1 32gb. Both card started within 2 sec after formatted. However as the capacity was getting filled. Especially toward 90%+ capacity, start up time with both card started lagging significantly. Sandisk took as long as 3-4 sec and Exercia took as long as 5-6 sec. So the start up time is not only dependent on the card but also amount of data that is stored in the card as well... There were handful of shots I missed because of the start up delay once the card got full.... You used a 240? Deleted images in the camera? MirekE Posted February 14, 2014 Share #246 Posted February 14, 2014 There is apparently new card on the market: SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro SDXC-UHS-II (280MB/S) Anybody had a chance to use it yet?

lct Posted February 14, 2014 Share #248 Posted February 14, 2014 Yes but the M240 doesn't work faster with them, at least with the Toshiba Exceria Pro 260/240 MB/s i've tested on mine.
MirekE Posted February 14, 2014 Share #249 Posted February 14, 2014 Yes but the M240 doesn't work faster with them, at least with the Toshiba Exceria Pro 260/240 MB/s i've tested on mine. Thanks. I am mostly concerned about the startup delay. It drives me crazy. Those cards should also improve speeds on LR imports given that one has the appropriate hardware. lct Posted February 14, 2014 Share #250 Posted February 14, 2014 Startup times are around 1.7 second with the Toshiba 16GB. Better choose less expensive cards like Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s 64 GB for the same results more or less. See: http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83
pico Posted February 14, 2014 Share #251 Posted February 14, 2014 Thanks. I am mostly concerned about the startup delay. It drives me crazy. Turn off sleep, and if that is not adequate, then learn to anticipate. Sent from my Etcha-sketch.
jmourilyan Posted December 10, 2014 Share #252 Posted December 10, 2014 I have just replaced my 8g 30mb/s SanDisk Extreme SD card with an 8gb 95mb/s card in my M-P (240) and the startup from standby has reduced from 3-4secs to being almost instantaneous - no more missed shots !! LocalHero1953 Posted December 10, 2014 Share #253 Posted December 10, 2014 Sadly, my M240 (non-P) is just as slow on start up as it ever was with a Sandisk ExtremePro 32Mb card (i.e. the fast one): >2secs. I've spent a lot of time reading the various tweaks and urban legends put forward in all the threads, and I've concluded that, after all the card selection, using the right formatting software, turning off sleep mode, opening the base when the moon is full etc etc,, there is still a fair amount of randomness in the start-up performance of different M240s. The M240P may be a different story.
LocalHero1953 Posted December 12, 2014 Share #254 Posted December 12, 2014 For those visiting here from the "love my Leica" thread........ I have just reformatted my Sandisk ExtremePro 32Gb card using SDFormatter v4.0 (first Full with Overwrite, then Full) switched off auto sleep, and it still takes 2-3 secs to start up. I have the latest firmware, and I don't use LV or the EVF. Have I lost shots? Yes. Can I/ will I live with it? Yes, until I'm convinced that I'm the only one with this problem, and so far I am not. I fully accept, however, that one or other of the various solutions proposed have worked for some.
lct Posted December 12, 2014 Share #255 Posted December 12, 2014 32GB cards are somewhat slower for whatever reason so between 2 and 3 seconds sound normal compared to my tests above. Got my faster results (1.7") with 8GB and 64GB 95 MB/s cards after formatting with SD Formatter.
LocalHero1953 Posted December 12, 2014 Share #256 Posted December 12, 2014 Thanks, I'd missed that - a useful summary. Even 1.7s is too slow, though, IMO. And I'm not reverting to 1Gb cards:D. Edit: looks like I should try the 64Gb, for a bit of an improvement.
lct Posted December 12, 2014 Share #257 Posted December 12, 2014 Yes you should sense a significant improvement with this card. Also disabling auto sleep (auto power off) is a good idea but won't work for the first shot after switching off the camera of course.
pico Posted December 12, 2014 Share #258 Posted December 12, 2014 Minor point - a full format with overwrite wears the card more than a quick format. At the rate at which we change cards we probably won't notice it.
rich_ Posted December 15, 2014 Share #259 Posted December 15, 2014 I use 2 Sandisk Extreme Pro 95Mb/s 16GB cards. My M240 is ready before i can bring the VF to my eye. The cards work speedily and are relatively cheap. My M240 is running the newest Firmware. My old 30Mb/s Sandisk cards for my M9 are far slower with regards to the M240 boot up time. Be warned! mfunnell Posted December 15, 2014 Share #260 Posted December 15, 2014 For what it's worth: Using SanDisk 16GB Extreme PLUS 80MB/s SDHC I cards I was getting 2+ second start-up and wake-up times before formatting with SD Formatter. After using it I'm getting faster start-up times (subjectively seems like 1 second or maybe less, though I haven't timed it) and, more importantly to me, wake-up time is now effectively instantaneous. This changed a minor but constant irritation into something I no longer have to concern myself with, so I count using SD Formatter as a big win for me. I've not tried with other cards (I've experimented with a few, with no notable differences until SD Formatter came along) as the 16GB cards noted above now work just fine for me. ...Mike
