lanetomlane Posted March 20, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would appreciate if you would be kind enough to advise me of your favourite software for presenting slideshows. I am a Mac user, but before seeing the light and converting I used to use Proshow Gold by Photodex. I'm sure I'd heard somewhere that Photodex don't support the Mac platform and looking on the website I can't see any mention of an operating system. Any recommendations would be welcomed. Thanks & regards _________________ Tom

dave_d Posted March 20, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2013 I prefer using Adobe Lightroom. You can also create a slide show using Adobe Bridge but Lightroom does a better job f it.

nick.edwards1 Posted March 27, 2013 Share #9 Posted March 27, 2013 Hello Tom, I have been a Mac user for a long time (13+ years), but there is a Windows program that merits attention. It is PicturesToExe. PicturesToExe Deluxe - Photo Slideshow Software - WnSoft The developers have been working on a Mac version for some time, but I don't think the Mac version will be available that soon. This program is not too expensive and seems very easy to use and has also become the de-facto standard for UK and international AV competitions. In the last few months I have seen many impressive AV presentations created by amateurs with this software, so it may be worth booting your Mac into Windows if you are serious. The program is capable of producing both Mac and Windows executable files, so once created you don't have to re-boot into Windows you can just run it on your Mac. I am even considering going down this route myself. Regards, Nick.

I actually attended a presentation (after I had written the original post) and the author used a MacBook Pro with PicturesToExe software. I am therefore assuming that it is now available for Mac. Thanks again & best regards __________________ Tom

It produces the show on a Windows machine, but the output can be shown on a Mac platform. Miguel13 Posted October 1, 2013 Share #12 Posted October 1, 2013 Hi guys, i'm new to the forum, but i'll make good efforts to prove worthy! And for the start - i want to show you one special program for making slideshow. It's called Smartshow. It is very very easy to use and you do not need special skill to create great slideshows! So i strongly advise you to check it and make your own opinion! Thanks, Michael
wda Posted October 1, 2013 Share #13 Posted October 1, 2013 Slideshow Pro, using LR as the home base plugin. Works wonders, Here's a sample: NYSITY Some super portraits, Ben; but on my W7 computer I get the music but no slide show. It seems stuck on the first picture, even when I click on later pictures shown in the strip at the bottom. Could it be platform-sensitive?
janki Posted October 1, 2013 Share #14 Posted October 1, 2013 One question regards slideshow. I have seen through Ben´s (roguewave) slideshow of life in NY. Great show and nice pictures! But, - is it legal to use Stevie Wonder's music along with your own pictures, even if you do not charge for the slideshow? ? Can I perform a free lecture to 100 people, with my own pictures and use someone else's music to the pictures, without paying fees to the music industry? Can I create a slide show with own pictures and others' music and post it on YOU TUBE, without doing anything criminal? Looking forward to your perception of the issue! Thanks! PS: I do not know if Ben might have paid to use music to his pictures.

PS: I do not know if Ben might have paid to use music to his pictures. I sent a link to Stevie a few years ago! He loved it. I gave him an audio file that described each place in Harlem where I took the images, including the Apollo Theater, where he starred as a child and many other places of fame in Harlem. I also got a chance to meet him in person when he performed at Percy Sutton's funeral. Those images were then published in the Amsterdam News, the most important Black newspaper in the world.
dave_d Posted October 2, 2013 Share #16 Posted October 2, 2013 OBut, - is it legal to use Stevie Wonder's music along with your own pictures, even if you do not charge for the slideshow? ? No. Not under US copyright law without permission from the artist. Here is a handy copyright tutorial from ASMP: Registration Counts | American Society of Media Photographers
janki Posted October 3, 2013 Share #17 Posted October 3, 2013 Wow, - imagine having met Stevie Wonder. Ben, - it almost sounds like he is your neighbor, and NY a small cozy village. For me, Stevie Wonder is a so called mega artist far out into the big world and NY the greatest of all cities, where people are just numbers. Awesome! I think the key word in terms of using other people's music to own images, is to ask for permission. If the use is not commercial, and it is informed of origin, - you will usually get permission. Many years ago I saw some calculations of how big fees for music, for commercial use along with images, would be. From what I remember, I had to enter the value of at least one Leica M before it had gone 20 minutes. Regards!
PicGunner Posted October 11, 2013 Share #18 Posted October 11, 2013 I use and endorse Proshow Producer. Easy after a fairly frustrating learning curve. BUT the phone support is absolutely fantastic. First, they are located in USA and speak so I can understand them. They have experience with using Proshow and are not just reading a computer monitor and asking you more questions constantly before answering yours. They have been there for me every time. I began my computer life with Radio Shack and progressed to a Mac. I published a computer magazine for eight years with a Mac. After selling the magazine, I bought MS-based system. Graphic programs like Quark Express worked only with Mac when I was publishing. BUT finding tech support, service and repair facilities always was nearly impossible, and I lived in Metro Detroit at than time. 6+ million population and only one Mac service facility that could assist with software and hardware. Never looked back since owning MS-based system. Only other software that comes close is Irfanview, where the actual designer, not a tech, promptly answers my emails overnight. And it's shareware, but I send donations usually when I receive an upgrade.
