lct Posted November 30, 2013 Share #81 Posted November 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M240's startup times are never instantaneous i'm afraid. I did find 1.7 second at best with this very card. Would you mind to compare? http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83

ModernMan Posted November 30, 2013 Share #82 Posted November 30, 2013 Hi, I agree with you. I also got my new M just before my boarding. With this camera, I had a wonderful travel in Europe. The startup time, whether after sleep or not, is truly a little lag. So I have to switch on/off by myself instead of setting sleep time at 2 min. I think this design is based on the traditional M photography. Maybe the best solution now is carry another battery with us. Cheers !! Well, I can see that what you suggest is the best "workaround", under the circumstances. But the best solution is to improve the firmware to make and startup times lower and consistent. ModernMan Posted December 1, 2013 Share #84 Posted December 1, 2013 Unless everybody uses the same card it can't be done. I'm skeptical that it absolutely can't be done, but I will agree that it may not be a simple fix that applies to all cards, but rather require "special case" code for many different cards. That's often the unfortunate (and costly) reality of writing software that supports hardware from a diverse set of manufacturers. But, if supporting only one card makes it feasible for Leica to deliver sub-second startup time, I might be ok with that depending on the card capacity, cost etc.
Guest jvansmit Posted December 2, 2013 Share #85 Posted December 2, 2013 luckily no problem with mine so far (using 95mbps Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB cards), and the battery easily lasts 10-12 hour street shooting days, 200-300 shots with a quick peep after most . bephoto Posted December 24, 2013 Share #86 Posted December 24, 2013 I think Startup depends on type of SD card. My experience: with 64GB SDXC Lexar Class 10 600X startup time is less than 1.5sec while with a Mobi 8GB card it takes 4secs!

Would you mind to compare?http://tinyurl.com/kp8qe83 The Link states that if you just normally format the card via the camera, it takes 4 seconds with a Sandisk Extreme Pro 64gb 90/95mbs but only 1.7 if you use SD Formatter. 4 Seconds, is 3 seconds slower than my Canon... Something is wrong in Leica if they cant code simple things like this into their cameras.
lct Posted December 25, 2013 Share #88 Posted December 25, 2013 Those are used cards having worked in different cameras already. The relevant figures are those out of SD Formatter ("SDF" or "SDF+ICF"). A new card would take about 1.7 second out of the box as well and would stay so after a couple in-camera formats most probably. This is still way longer than the 0.2 second of my 8 years old 5D though. Only way to go faster is to abstain from using a stopwatch like some of out optimist friends here or to disable sleep mode more seriously. Works fine but better bring another battery just in case. The rest is literature and possible firmware updates that we'll never see as far as startup times are concerned i'm afraid.
jsjxyz Posted May 1, 2015 Share #89 Posted May 1, 2015 Just using SD Formatter it comes down to 2+ seconds almost 3 seconds. Thanks for the info, I hope Leica fix in the next firmware https://youtu.be/0KBObKzZKS0
kkcsm Posted May 1, 2015 Share #90 Posted May 1, 2015 No, it's not the same like with the M9. When the M goes to sleep mode after 2 minutes (as I've chosen in the menu) it needs about the same time (approx. 2 seconds) to get ready to shoot - similar like startup time from Off. The M9 was ready almost instantly. Nik, I wonder if formatting your card with SDFormatter will help? https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ I usually format in camera, but I have different cameras; when I use a card in my M after previously formatting in my Canon I format with SDFormatter. -K
