andybarton Posted March 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2013 When I was a boy, and had a model railway, a Black Five was the ultimate Hornby locomotive. This photograph does nothing to dampen such covetous thoughts, even 40-odd years on They are £270 even today...

This photograph does nothing to dampen such covetous thoughts, even 40-odd years on They are £270 even today... When I had a Hornby trainset it was one of these that I wanted and had to hide my disgruntlement and disappointment when some fancy steam locomotive was given to me for my birthday. Orient XI Posted March 19, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 19, 2013 Pity about the wires. It brings back happy memories of living in an LMS Station House and of one glorious day when I was allowed to drive one under supervision (the statute of limitations applies ). cbretteville Posted April 11, 2013 Share #7 Posted April 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love steam locomotives and I'm thankful for those that are still running. When I was a boy, and had a model railway, a Black Five was the ultimate Hornby locomotive. Some of us have boys and they're the perfect excuse for a decent collection of Märklin locomotives and rolling stock. Boy has computerisation changed model railways since I got my first Fleishmann 'N' scale set in the 70s. Carl

algrove Posted April 11, 2013 Share #9 Posted April 11, 2013 Trains, like many have said, was my passion as a young boy. That one is pristine in my book. Now I wonder where we can still see steam engines around the world. Any lists that have benefitted some of you?
hamey Posted April 12, 2013 Share #10 Posted April 12, 2013 At last a decent Photo, Love the Stanier Black fives. Well done. My Dad bought me a quite a few original Hornby Doublo Locos and yes still have them in my collection, but cannot recall the Black five as one of them, that also applies to Tri-ang which made cheaper models but Nevertheless great staff. Thats how I got into Leicas, A friend just returned back from Germany, took some wonderful Shots with his Leicaflex of East and West German steam and thats what got me hooked on Leicas. The sad point is that he switch to Pentax years ago, he said they are better. (and he's German) Lol. Ken
