jaapv Posted March 29, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2007 As long as you don't send it to Shintaro. I lost an M3 to him.  And 600$ as well.......
luigi bertolotti Posted March 29, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 29, 2007 Where would I be able to get my M4 body repainted (professionally) ? You told me You often go to Milano from Lovere... I have no experience about painting, but in Milano (downtown) there are two serious Leica labs : R & C Service Via Plinio 41 0229531867 Benatti Via Dezza 41 02435461 (Benatti produces also hand made teleconverters 1,4x and 2x for Leica M, manufactured around Japanese lens groups... they work... rangefinder OK...an honest way to have a 180mm on M4 at a reasonable price). stunsworth Posted March 29, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2007 Bad news Jaap. I have an M3 that I considered sending to him. I'm glad I didn't. I think Malcolm Taylor may do repainting.

jaapv Posted April 2, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 2, 2007 A Japanese photographer who is supposed to be the best there is in repainting camera's. He had good independent feedback and a good reputation.I sent him an M3 to be painted black in February 2006, paid him 600$ and after that nothing but a confirmation that the camera and money arrived- total silence. Camera gone, money gone.
Johannes Knightworth Posted April 2, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted April 2, 2007 Jaap, this shitaru guy was referred to me by others, I sent him 2 mails, both returned as undeliverable..... such a bummer loosing money and a camera this way.... stunsworth Posted April 2, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 2, 2007 No consolation at all to Jaap, but I've seen one of Shintaro's repainted bodies and it really was gorgeous.
robsteve Posted April 2, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 2, 2007 I had a M2 and a M3 painted by him about five years ago. He did an excellent job. Communications was a bit slow with him, but I think the turn around was only about a month. In my research I think I also ran across a shop in Hong Kong that painted Leicas as well. Just from memory, I think they were quite a bit more expensive than Shintaro.

Guest Posto 6 Posted November 6, 2008 Share #16 Posted November 6, 2008 I have had my M3 re-painted in black, and M4 in olive green by CRR- absolutely fantastic job and very durable finish, as a very hard enamel is used. Additionally, CRR are the only ones that can also replace the vulcanite with new original-which they did (in olive green!) on my M4, making the camera overall look and feel like new. I can very highly recommend them without any hesitation.

Are they up to your expection? Does the black paintt they used close to the orignial Leica black paint? Would love to see some pics of the black M3.
