Cindy Flood Posted March 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 just arrived back from Solms today. The body cap had a big orange sticker the size of the cap that said: "Attention: For sensor cleaning, please see instructions, p. 60/128" I am wondering if everyone has this sticker on their body cap or was Leica trying to tell me something? I have never done anything to my sensor except blow it off with the rocket blower (held carefully outside of the body.)

carstenw Posted March 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2007 It's a new-ish thing which has been reported here before. Mine didn't have that new, nor when returned from Solms.

andit Posted March 29, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 29, 2007 I just got my new M8 a couple of days ago and it had this sticker on the lens cap from the start. Some people have obviously damaged the shutter blades during cleaning operations by using some or other means of holding the shutter open (eg. using the B mode). So, I think, Leica is just trying to get people to read the instructions and use the proper procedures. Andreas

Cindy Flood Posted March 29, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted March 29, 2007 Lisa asked: Cindy,How long was your camera's trip to Solms? I mailed my M8 to New Jersey (from Florida) on February 19th. I believe it made the shipment to Solms the next week. I received a letter from NJ about 10 days later giving me a tracking number. When the camera gets to Solms and goes into the computer there, you can track online at Leica Camera AG - Service - Repair Tracking. About 2 weeks ago, my M8 dropped off of the online tracking. I assume that is when it was finished in Germany and started back to NJ. I did have a 1 day hold-up in NJ at the end while a lens I sent with the M8 was checked. Yesterday, March 28, both camera and lens arrived home. I did call in to NJ because I never got any notice that my lens was received. It had been in the same box as the M8. I had visions of the lens being thrown away by mistake (brand new 50 f/1.4 ASPH) The staff in NJ couldn't be nicer. They tracked down my lens and assured me that it was in NJ and would be checked when my M8 came back. They seem to be swamped!
karlitos Posted March 29, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 29, 2007 All new M8's now have this sticker. Karlitos
losta Posted March 29, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 29, 2007 Thanks for the info Cindy. I'll have to wait until June to send mine in. I just realized I'm only about 35 minutes away from Allendale, NJ so yesterday I dropped off my 21 elmarit and 50 nocti, when they are ready I'll drop off two more. You would think they could and should have a better system for tracking and repairs. There really is no excuse at this time for a company such as Leica to have such an antiquated system.
