A distinctive look? Yes. Smooth and sophisticated. Like a sophisticated woman. Hard to define. Something to do with her bearing, her manner, her poise, her graciousness, her speech, her dress, her perfume. When you meet her you are humbled. Awestruck. So it is with the best from D2. Something to do with pixels and jpegs, I think. Someone inside Leica had a moment of genius. He should have been put in charge. D2 has style. M9 does not.

A happy accident. It almost doesn't matter with an atmospheric picture like this one. Despite reservations, I do not shirk from using ISO 400 when necessary.

Yes, I'm often surprised at how usable the D2's ISO 400 is when jpeg Colour Saturation is set to black & white, David. Colour results at ISO 400 usually carry too much chrominance noise for my taste though.

Re: late afternoon misty dunes

Nero Bianco, how did you get the sepia effect? It's very nice.

John R.

John,

I used Split Toning in Lightroom. I changed the image again so I can't tell you exactly what I used but I think it was close to hue 50 for both highlights and shadows. The saturation and balance will be different for every image.

I should have saved it as a preset.

I found it. I used the Creamtone preset that comes standard in Lightroom.
