lct Posted June 3, 2013 Share #61 Posted June 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) DoF depends on sensor size other things equal so with the same focal length and at the same subject distance, the M9 has more DoF than the M8 whereas with an equivalent focal lens the opposite is true. It is therefore more difficult to focus a 135 on M9 than a 90 on M8 at f/3.5 for instance w/o magnification. Now aside from 135mm lenses, moving from M8 to M9 should not cause focussing difficulties IMHO.

jaapv Posted June 4, 2013 Share #62 Posted June 4, 2013 According to Leica and it is my experience as well, (and according to you) it is actually easier to focus on the M9. It has not to do with DOF as such but with the measuring base in relationship with the sensor size and resulting field of view in the viewfinder. It seems you have forgotten your own argument According to the latest rumour, the M9 will be full frame and its rangefinder will have the same base length (47,09 mm EBL) and the same 0,68x magnification as those of the M8.Due to different circles of confusions (0,0300 mm for the M9 vs 0,0226 mm for the M8), difficult lenses like 75/1.4, 90/2 or 135/4 should be easier to focus with the new body though. EBL = effective base length Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
