Crazy Cat Lady Posted March 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed that on the LCD of my M8 there is this red dot that appears in the upper left corner when I view pictures. It does not seem to show up on all pictures though. Does anyone else have this problem? What could it be? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Hi Crazy Cat Lady, Take a look here M8 ~ Red dot on upper left corner of LCD. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted March 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2007 I noticed it on mine too. I am not sure if it appeared after the latest firmware update. What version of firmware is on your camera?

Guest Bernd Banken Posted March 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 28, 2007 I noticed that on the LCD of my M8 there is this red dot that appears in the upper left corner when I view pictures. It does not seem to show up on all pictures though. Does anyone else have this problem? What could it be? Thanks! Could be a (dead)? pixel of the screen. My D200 has it in the lower right corner... steich Posted March 28, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2007 Confirmed. My M8 has it, too, on the upper left corner. The more light the picture contains, the more visible is that red pixel. Even with pictures I took with the old FW. Can´t be the reflex of the Leica dot on the front...my Leica dot is black ;-) I also have FW 1.092... robertwright Posted March 28, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2007 I have one too, upper left corner. I guess the red dot is the most durable thing about the camera;)
cbretteville Posted March 28, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine does too. Doesn't always show, guess there is something to the light level idea.
ioriw Posted March 28, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2007 Mine too... it gets brighter with light/white levels...

andit Posted March 28, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 28, 2007 Hi Jennifer, Just a quick question, how are you enjoying your M8? Is it all that you expected and how has the change over from a DSLR been for you? I've had my M8 now for almost a week and love it! Can't wait for my other lenses to arrive later this week (when they sent me the M8, they only got the 90mm f/4.0 Elmar in - while being a brilliant lens, I'm sure you would love it for portraits, I'm a landscape photographer so I have limited use for it). I ordered a cv 15mm and the 40mm Nokton. Should be great. Well, enjoy your M8. Andreas
egibaud Posted March 28, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 28, 2007 you are right but it happens on almost over exposed or very bright pictures. also, if you go the graph info on the same pic that show the red dot, on the right on the graph it shows a vertival red line :-/ for readers before they start shoting heads at Leica.... THIS IS NOT ON THE PIC but on the menu bar.
johnkuo Posted March 28, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 28, 2007 I started to notice this after I upgraded to 1.092, but I have been ignoring it.
atufte Posted March 28, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 28, 2007 Mine to after upgrading to fw 1.92, a couple of my friends M8's also have this after upgrading so this is definitely a firmware "problem", hopefully it will be gone in 1.10... :-)
ho_co Posted March 28, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 28, 2007 Could the red dot/red line be part of the LCD illumination system? Doesn't the M8's LCD get brighter in brighter light to help view the screen? Maybe the red display is just an indication of how much light is getting through? Thanks, Jennifer! Better we worry about this than about cameras ceasing to function! --HC
de dirk Posted March 28, 2007 Share #15 Posted March 28, 2007 i have it since i updated to .92, together with the constant shifting when you review the pictures... help!
robbegibson Posted March 29, 2007 Share #16 Posted March 29, 2007 I don't seem to have a red dot. Currently 1.092. Didn't notice one with 1.09, either. DNG's, JPG's, dark images, white walls....no red dot. I wonder if it correlates to a run of serial numbers? Robbe
harmsr Posted March 29, 2007 Share #17 Posted March 29, 2007 It is there. I don't know when it appeared, because I never noticed it until reading this thread. It is basically in the EXTREME top / left corner of the black bar which shows the ISO, etc... Ray
Crazy Cat Lady Posted March 29, 2007 Author Share #18 Posted March 29, 2007 Hi Jennifer, Just a quick question, how are you enjoying your M8? I ordered a cv 15mm and the 40mm Nokton. Should be great. Well, enjoy your M8. Andreas Hi Andreas I am really enjoying the experience so far. You know, I am not really sure what I expected. I guess I thought that I would be getting sharper images. I'm not sure if it is me, the camera or the lens (35 cron). Every once in a while I will get a semi sharp image, but not a tack sharp images I see from other people here. Maybe it will just take practice. It is definately different than a DSLR, but the transition was pretty easy. The only thing that is difficult for me so far, besides not being able to get sharp pictures is, the M8 is difficult to grip with my hands. I am so scard that I am going to drop it that I hold on to it for dear life. I am just used to have that grip on the DSLR, which to me makes it easier to hold. You are getting a pretty good lens collection going on there I just found a used 35 lux ASPH coded because I realized that I need that extra stop. It should be here tomrrow. Either the cron or the lux is going to get sold and maybe in a month or so, I will be looking at a new lens. At first I kind of doubted getting the 35mm length, but it has actually been fun. I actually debated on selling it and getting another length instead, but I think I will keep it. Have fun with your new lenses!
