wlaidlaw Posted March 11, 2013 Share #81 Posted March 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My local resale shop didn't have an OUFRO, but they did have an old Leica bellows (with a few taped-up light leaks) for $50. No adapters to mount a lens on it, though. They also had a very strange system with long rods that screwed into different M-adapter things, but I couldn't figure out how to mount a lens on the adapters and there were no instructions. If it looked like the pic below, that was probably the Leica document copying system. There were different models for LTM and M cameras. They usually came with a selection of close up lenses. Luigi or JC are the men to tell you chapter and verse about any weird attachment, as one or other of them will probably have an example. I have the equivalent for my Minox C (it came from the Czech Republic so probably from a retired spy ) It has notches on the legs, which correspond to marked distances on the focus dial and to little distance measuring buttons on the steel flexy chain/wrist strap on the camera. JeTexas Posted March 12, 2013 Share #82 Posted March 12, 2013 That does indeed look like the attachments they had at the shop. I found an OUFRO at KEH for $94, so I ordered one.

marknorton Posted April 7, 2013 Share #85 Posted April 7, 2013 So to recap, we know the M detects that a lens has been removed (which it uses as a cue to close the shutter during Live View to protect the sensor) when the 6 bit lens detector sees no reflection back from the lens bayonet mount. All Dark = No Lens. It's possible to fool the system by covering the sensor with a reflective surface and the question has then been what happens with lens mount adapters which are black painted/anodised. I have a Novoflex Nikon F-Leica M adapter which is painted black and which is somehow accepted - the paint must be reflective to some degree to IR. I've just bought a new production Novoflex M42-Leica M adapter so that I can try old East German and Pentax lenses on the M and, there it is, a section of the bayonet mount is now painted silver to provide some reflection (All Reflected = No lens coding) even though the mount is black. If you have a black lens mount which the M fails to recognise, painting a thin coat of silver paint in the area of the lens sensor will solve the problem. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted April 7, 2013 Share #86 Posted April 7, 2013 Mark, Does that Novoflex adapter have an internal cam to depress an auto aperture pin on an M42 lens? I have a number of M42 lenses but my Elephoto does not have a cam and I have to push in a piece of black rubber belting, held in place with Blu-Tak, to depress the pin, every time I mount a lens on the adapter. marknorton Posted April 7, 2013 Share #87 Posted April 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, yes, as you screw in the lens, the pin is depressed and the lens stops down. The flangs only covers half the pin in the lens I have tried so far which I assume is to prevent the mount diameter being reduced too far. I suppose that if the pin of a lens were closer than normal to the centre, it might not get caught by the flange. I've tried it with 3 lenses so far, all fine. wlaidlaw Posted April 14, 2013 Share #88 Posted April 14, 2013 I have just bought a Zeiss Vario Sonnar 28-85mm and an Adriano Lolli Contax to M adapter. I was going to defer this until later but I got an email from eBay, saying you had been looking at these lenses so what about this lot. In amongst them, was an MMJ model from Italy, which claims to be mint and barely used. Certainly from the photos and how bright and clean the figures on the distance scales are, it looks totally like new and comes even with all its original paperwork. It had a very reasonable buy it now price, so I jumped at it. It was less than a third of what I paid new for the one of these lenses I bought in the mid 1990's, when I used Contax SLR's. My memory is that this was at the time, about as good as a Zoom lens could get. It is possibly not quite as good as the Vario Elmarit 28-90/2.8 but at around a tenth of the price these are fetching at the moment, represents rather better "bang for your buck". If anyone is interested, RS photographic in the UK is currently selling a Contax 35-135 lens for £799. This is also a first class lens but even bigger and heavier than the Leica 28-90. Below is a picture of the actual lens that is on its way to me from Italy. What with that and the Hartblei tilt Shift Super Rotator 80mm, that is sitting stuck in Kiev post office, I think that will be the end of my lens buying for the year. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! marknorton Posted April 14, 2013 Share #89 Posted April 14, 2013 Looks good and, as you say, better value than the Leica 28-90. It will be interesting to se whether Leica introduce zooms for the M but they are hardly going to be inexpensive.

Mark, I doubt if I would get much change out of the €380 I paid for the Contax lens, for a Leica M mount zoom Wilson
jonoslack Posted April 14, 2013 Share #91 Posted April 14, 2013 Hi There Lovely lens Wilson Worth Noting that Contax still have their website intact, and it's useful for reference: Contax Lenses FWIW they have the 35-135 as the same weight as the 28-85. I've been tempted by one, but the 35 start is a bit of a put off. all the best
dierk Posted April 14, 2013 Share #92 Posted April 14, 2013 I am still waiting for my new M. In the mean time I use the M9 and MM for testing the Canon 17mm TS-E tilt/shift lens. The weight of the 35-135 must be all at the front as it feels considerably heavier on a camera. Wilson
wlaidlaw Posted May 3, 2013 Share #94 Posted May 3, 2013 I had had my Telyt 280/f4.8 series 3 cleaned as I was not desperately impressed with this lens. Neither resolving power nor contrast. It was a little better with the nicotine and tar removed but not by as much as I had hoped. I was offered a mint Zeiss Contax Tele-Tessar 300/f4. This is a lens with a fair to middling reputation (according to Photodo) and not up to the standard of the APO Tessar 300/f2.8 but at a very different price point. Well on a quick few test shots against the 280 Telyt, it is Manchester United against Aldershot Town (bottom of lowest Division). I would say it is noticeably sharper and contrastier than the Vario Elmar 80-200 at 200mm. At what I paid for it, I am most impressed. I also got a 2X Mutar II at a give away price.
