Rolo Posted March 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2007 Thanks Steve. I saw his retrospective at the Manchester Art Gallery last year. Some great images. Particularly like the one of the miner in the police helmet and also the terraced street shots. Time for his family and friends to celebrate his life and work. stunsworth Posted March 27, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted March 27, 2007 That shot fron the miner's strike is absolutely priceless. The sort of shot I think many of us would have been more than proud to have taken.

elansprint72 Posted March 27, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don and Bob Smithies (late of this forum and also, sadly, no longer with us) were two of the reasons why I stuck with photography in the 70s. Bob and I had an long discussion around the time of Don's retro-exhibition last year, sounded like they shared some great (and maybe not so great) times at The Gruniad. They will both be sadly missed. Now there is only one of the triumvirate left.
marknorton Posted March 28, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2007 Very sad, the one which gets to me is the last one of mother and child in the rubble. The sense brilliantly captured of hopelessness and uttter desolation.

Guest flatfour Posted April 5, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 5, 2007 He was a very accomplished and skilful photographer. Just a pity he worked for such a poor newspaper. I used to keep some of his pictures for ideas.
