gylee Posted July 23, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks everyone. I am constantly surprised at the quality of the photographs taken with that little Leica CM. I am so glad that I bought it instead of the D-lux 2 I was considering at the time. Although I have seen some people take some great shots with the D-Lux 2 on this forum, there is just something about the CM. Now I have found somewhere I can get good commercial scans, I don't feel that I would get any real benefit out of a digital P&S(other than cost and immediate satisfaction) and I know that I am a more careful and thoughtful photographer when I am using film. I had the Leica and a Canon 5D with me on this particular trip. The 5D is a great camera (yes even with the Canon glass!) but it was just so refreshing to have the ability to drop the little Leica in my bag and know that the photos would be great and that I would not be cursing the weight of it in a couple of hours. Next stop, Leica M7, a 35 and a Coolscan V... G.
meatboy Posted July 23, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 23, 2006 Great image Gordon, great to see some BW work from the little CM. Its a surprising little camera, mine has only seen a few rolls but it is often going along on day trips rather than the MP just because of its convenience to carry Tim
kdemas Posted July 23, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just visited the Orsay for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Terrific! Here is a quick shot showing the quiet floor that day. Kent
kdemas Posted July 23, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 23, 2006 One more thing... I too have a CM and judging by Gordons shot I wish I had brought it that day! Very nice!
stuny Posted July 23, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 23, 2006 Gordon - Taken from the floor with the impressionists, or just outside the excellent dining room. You've captured well both the spirits of both the current and past use of this space.
etanguero Posted July 23, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2006 nice photo, indeed! eT p.s.: what would interest me would be a 'crop' (or even better pure picture) of the uppermost two fifths of the initial picture: just the glass arches part. could you provide us this view? andybarton Posted July 25, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 25, 2006 I keep coming back to this one - not only is it beautifully exposed, but very well developed as well. Did you process this yourself, Gordon?
davephoto Posted July 25, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 25, 2006 very nice photo, gordon. well exposed. kent also makes an admirable photo with the ricoh gr; however, the limited exposure latitude of digital shows in [slight] clipped highlights in the sky lighting. fotografr Posted July 25, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 25, 2006 Keep posting images like this and you'll help Leica sell a lot of those little CMs. If the lens was just a bit wider, say 35mm, I'd have one myself.
gylee Posted July 25, 2006 Author Share #15 Posted July 25, 2006 I keep coming back to this one - not only is it beautifully exposed, but very well developed as well. Did you process this yourself, Gordon? Andy I wish I could say I did, but this is a commercial processing job and a commercial scan. It was done locally in Hong Kong. I found a place that does processing and a 16 base scan for HK$100 for a roll of 36 (about US$12.50), which strikes me as pretty reasonable. A Nikon Coolscan V is on the cards though. Thanks to you and to everyone else for their interest and their comments. I am really pleased with this picture and am glad that others like it too. The CM really is a keeper. I am so glad that I bought it instead of the D-lux 2. It is having an outing to Melbourne in August and to Copenhagen in September so hopefully there will be some more to show here. G. gylee Posted July 26, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted July 26, 2006 reasonable indeed, gordon. which lab does your scanning? perhaps on stanley street in central? Dave- that's right. I can't remember the name but it is the Fuji branded store right near the start of Stanley Street (at the D'Aguilar Street end) on the left hand side as you are walking down Stanley Street. They also have a good range of Billingham bags at attractive prices. G.
