Reminder

Anyone who wants to go up the Shard on Saturday 27 during our meet up, please tell me ny 4pm on Wednesday 10 April so I can book your tickets £25.95 each) and bring the mony on Saturday.

We plan to meet between 11am and 12 noon, have a stroll take photos then lunch in a local pub and go up the shard at 2.30pm.

I can't pm everyone as it's not clear who is certainly coming - so either pm me or answer here if you want Shard tickets (and of course your welcome to come along for the day without the tip up the Shard).

So far I have me, Pete and Brian for tickets, but I'm sure there are a few more who want to take some photos from the top of Europe's tallest building.

Nick have PM'd you.

EDF Energy are re-opening the visitor centres and also conducting tours of some of their nuclear plants. They were shutdown after 9/11 for security reasons.

I have done the public tour of Dungeness B (Dungeness A is being de-commissioned now) and it is an interesting tour, lasts around two hours and you finish the tour in the reactor building looking down on to the reactor pile cap.

Maybe a future Leica meet venue!

According to the FAQs, there are restrictions on taking cameras on site. Nevertheless, it sounds like an interesting tour.

... if so would anyone like me to book the 2.30pm slot for them and bring the cash on the day (5p short of £25) ...

Just so I bring the right money, Nick, is it £24.95 or £25.95?:o

Reminder and update

List is now:

Pete, Brian, me, Terry, Elaine & Ivor.

Anyone else by 4pm tomorrow please so I can book.

Restrictions on cameras! I hate that sort of nonsense. A good challenge should be who can take the best photo in restricted circumstances. I shall bring a small Leica I think!

edited - now realise that refers to the inside of a nuclear power station and not the top of the Shard

Sorry Pete it is 24.95, not 25.95 - my mistake

update

I just checked the info - nothing about photo restrictions - and I see elsewhere many people photographing there so I would not worry about that.

I did see this though:

"Certain items cannot be brought in to The View including large bags and rucksacks, generally over the size of 22 x 15 x 8 inches (55 x 38 x 20 cm) or other large equipment. Although we have no cloakroom facility for bags, folded pushchairs can be left in the designated area in the booking hall for free but bags and coats cannot be left with them."

So don't bring your large format view cameras and tripods ok

I'm definitely coming to the meeting, but will NOT be ascending the Shard.

Have we set a meeting place before and after the ascent? At the base of the Shard? I believe that the entrance fee allows for only 30 minutes at the top?

I have just booked 7 tickets for the Shard, 27 April, for the view at 2.30pm

for:

Pete, Brian, me, Terry, Elaine & Ivor and Robert. Please all bring money on day! (24.95 each)

The 7 of us shall only be gone from the rest for about 30 mins, so if you are not ascending the Shard please don't let that put you off what should be a good day of photography and catching up - and if you change your mind you can still book tickets yourself.

Can I suggest we meet at 11am at Greater London House. It's another interesting bit of modern architecture on the other side of the new development around the Shard. You can usually go inside, get coffee, take photos etc. Let's meet at the entrance to the building at 11am (it's by the Thames, by London Bridge for those who don't know it, the sloping building). We can take some photos and have a coffee, then perhaps walk around the whole area until about 12.30pm or 1pm, Have a pub lunch and then those going up the Shard do so just before 2.30pm, meeting back in the pub or wherever we have decided.

Nick,

Might it be an idea to meet in the cafe at City Hall rather than at the entrance? That way if it's wet we'll be undercover and if anyone's slightly delayed we'll be inside with a cup of steaming tea or coffee and they won't have missed us if we've moved off.:)

Is London's Kitchen at City Hall open on a Saturday ?

Well spotted, George, surprisingly it's not.:o

There's Gaucho directly to the right of City Hall although that's more of a restaurant, there's a Pret a Manger in a building behind it, or there are coffee shops in Hay's Galleria. But perhaps it's complicating the issue and Nick's original plan to meet at the entrance to City Hall is fine.

Note there are only 6 more places left for 14:30 so if anyone else needs to book tickets, I'd suggest getting them today.
