Swamiji - did you paint black over the M or remove the white paint? If you used black paint, what kind? Thanks! PS - looks great!

I removed the white paint. It's very easy to do. Just take a toothpick, and rub along the character. After a few passes it will crack and just fall off. If I want it back, I just go to a hobby shop and get a paint stick for dice. It's the same stuff.

This dot came from DAG, not cheap, but since Leica does not make 12mm Black dots, they need to be made. The price is higher.

About 40 bucks is not inexpensive enough? On a $7000 camera? If Leica made one, they'd put it on the M240-P with some script and charge another $1000.

I like mine from DAG as well.

Well, the M8.2 dots were between $12 and $22, depending on availability. So it's relative.

If I were really concerned about $40 on $7k camera, I wouldn't have done it...

This is really no different than what I did to my M9... Then about a year or so later came the M9P, but after my modification I felt no need to upgrade. So in the end it saved me money.

I know; I got one for $22 from DAG for my chrome M8.2.

DAG charges $40 for the bigger ones only because he paints the red ones himself. Still a bargain considering the cost all the other accessories folks put on their cameras. And at least DAG does quality work.

Maybe you missed my point. I, too, spent $40 from DAG for the M240. For me, forty bucks is practically nothing compared to the camera cost, so it's a 'no-brainer' if the look appeals. Of course it saved you money from the M9-P…an enormous amount…that's my point. A bargain.

I agree on all accounts, but trying to explain to a customs agent, why you are importing a black dot that costs $40 is a bit odd. I tried to explain that if it was a red dot, it would be twice as much.., I guess he was not a camera person...

I would have just told the agent that it's the logo for a $7000 camera, not including the $4000 lens. That should put it in perspective.

Maybe, but since it's more money than he makes in a year. I thought better of it.

Which is why I have my Leica items shipped to friends living in Hong Kong (duty free) and walk it across the border myself. It's not just a question of the "what the customer can bear" duty rates, but also the fact that many packages go missing.

Yes, I would too, but I don't know anybody in Hong Kong. Nor can I make regular trips...

You're not wrong, but that's not how I see it : $40 is a 5-pack of Tri-X and some left for a cheap lunch and coffee... So that's a busy day of shooting my M6 :D

Harder to give that up!

(Though I will get the black Dot, just like i got it for my M6... unless I can find something cooler!)
