Although I might get over the point that Leica lost the illumination window on the new M, I already have nightmares about the red dot. In my opinion it is as ugly as the M4-P's.

My photography improved big time once I installed a black dot onto my M9. Suddenly my unobtrusiveness helped me blend with the concrete. No one recognised me for the bore I am.

I still cherish a spare black dot at a secret hiding place, but as the dot-type-240 seems to be larger than the dot-type-M9, what can i do about it? please help and advise!

I think you need to see a shrink...............can take better pictures with a black dot rather than a red dot.....................what a load of cods wallop

A Leica aficionado in Singapore (who is also a cosmetic dentist making crowns and dental prothesis was apparently able to procure a half dozen M240 red dots. First he micro sandblasted them, and then followed by applying several coats of both flat and gloss paint, with a final polish. And people think I'm obsessive...

For black dot joy. Get some Safmat Letraset - Safmat Film cut a 2 inch square. Peel off the backing and stick it over the dot. With a brand new scalpel blade score the film very carefully around the edge of the dot. Peel off the circle. Then get a plastic zipper bag and cut a 1" circle on one side. Put the camera in the bag and then with masking tape stick the bag to the camera making sure there's no gaps. Then get a can of fine spray paint and make a few passes from a distance of about a foot. Let it dry, repeat from all angles until it's totally covered. When it's dry carefully scrape the paint from the letters exposing the silver. I did this and it looked perfect. But then I'd been using a scalpel for most of my professional life as a graphic designer so am pretty handy with it. Results may vary :-)

Perhaps we can have Godzilla instead of Gorilla glass then ;) but an M-P like this would not be too ugly. Would it coexist with the MP by the way? M10 and M10-P would have been too simple i guess. Why doing simple when one could do complicated.

Hi lct,

It should be Wetzlar Germany (soon).

:)

Most people don't know anything about Leica, or care. If you have concerns about unfavourable reactions maybe Leica is not for you.

Nothing to do with being "stealth", it's just something fun. Considering what Leica has done over the decades with the Nexus versions, Safari versions, Hermes Limited Editions my addition of a little black dot (which was a present from the very nice gentleman in Singapore) seems pretty reserved. At the end of the day it's just a way of personalizing my camera, which makes me happy as I tend to have it with me more than not.

Im paying £5100 for a camera. I am making sure people know it cost me that much.

I WANT to be stopped on the street by keen amateur photographers asking me why I shoot Leica and not CaNikon followed by 'what camera should I get'.

I love that.

That is funny. But i'm not sure how much of that was in jest or satrical or serious.

I personally don't like to be stopped in the middle of the street where cars are coming at me from every direction. But I digress. The problem when people ask me about the Leica, is that they tend to ask more about the camera than the photos I'm trying to show them. That, and usually these are creepy old men. If it was some hot woman, I would be more inclined to show off that red dot. But alas... I do tape up the red badge, and the other distinctive markings on the camera body. That way when people ask me if I'm shooing a leica, I can lie and say, "na it's just a fuji." And i'd be in a better possition to talk about my photos instead.

But then I had a thought that made me red full of embrassment. The markings on the front of the lens barrel is quite large and easy to read. the lettering on my 28mm elmarit, has a big "LEICA" right in the centre. I'm wondering, has anyone gone so far to hide the fact that they are shooting with a Leica that they paint in the lettering of their lenses?

What point is it to have a M9-P or a taped up Leica, when the lenses scream it out just as loudly?

P.S. I call the red dot on my leica, "my widdle pimple."

Black tape over the M and the Leica brand.

I hate branding. The red dot looks nasty. If the tape don't stick I'll just rip the red dot off and throw it away, and use black marker on the "M".

Leica should offer "incognito" kits for their cameras. They would sell like hot-cakes!

I don't want anyone to know what the gear is worth. Not even my mother.

I did my own version of Silver Dot! Actually it's gloss aluminum. Closest I can find.
