Rick Posted February 6, 2013 Share #81 Posted February 6, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) urs0polar - My dandelion adaptor works fine on my Canon 5D and 5DII for focus confirmation. I think that Jamie finds it works for him too. It really works pretty well once you get it to work right. I didn't think R-lenses worked with Nikon's focus confirmation lights in the screen. I didn't think you could change the focus screens on the 5DIII. urs0polar , is that a send-out job? Algrove, email me when you get back from Sebring racing and I'll help you figure it out. You need to make a change to one of Canon's cryptic matrix-type number screen entries. Rick

FlorianM Posted February 6, 2013 Share #82 Posted February 6, 2013 I wonder how much of a IQ difference there will be between the 28-90 R and the 28 Elmarit ASPH, or the 90 Elmarit..... I think a lot of R fans might be surprised at what a 24 mp sensor will reveal. (Leaving the zoom convenience/potential speed advantage of the primes aside for a moment)

Although for most of us (like me) who pretends he is a serious photographer, the difference between the 28-90 and even a 28/2 and a 90/2 will be very hard to discern. If it is a big difference then I'll throw on the 35-70/2.8, but it is much heavier than the 28-90 in my hands.

(Leaving the zoom convenience/potential speed advantage of the primes aside for a moment) Hi Florian Not Much is the answer - the 28-90 is such a good lens. I've not had experience with it on R cameras, but on the M it produces lovely results, and handles well with the grip too. all the best
Jeff S Posted February 7, 2013 Share #86 Posted February 7, 2013 For those afflicted with the affectation of using the word "sans" instead of "without", can I suggest you do at least use the German version, seeing as this is a German camera manufacturer forum. That word FYI is "ohne", as in "it's better to shoot an M ohne lenscap on". Except that sans is an English word as well, derived from Old French but appearing in English dictionaries, whereas ohne is only German. Plus, using your example, it would be 'sans lenscap,' not 'sans lenscap on.' Jeff

I've not had experience with it on R cameras, but on the M it produces lovely results, and handles well with the grip too. all the best This new zoom lens is an outstanding performer at all focal lengths. It's compact size, ergonomics and performance are extremely well balanced. Changing any of the parametres would reduce the quality of the whole. The Vario-Elmarit-R 28=90mm f/2.8-4.5 Asph picture is SUPERIOR to what one would expect from high grade FIXED focal lengths. The extensive focal length range secures it a premium role tn the Leica R lens gamut. Words by Erwin Puts. The whole lens review is on his Home web site or in LFI page 36 1/2004 Ken. I didn't think you could change the focus screens on the 5DIII. urs0polar , is that a send-out job? Rick, I just saw your post, sorry about the late reply. I must have a bad dandelion chip. I have it on a M645-EOS adapter from Fotodiox, and it's pretty unuseable. I'm glad to hear other people don't have the issue -- I've learned to live without it honestly and all the adapters (Leica R-EOS) I've ordered since haven't had it and i've been fine. The key with the (original) 5D is to change the focusing screen. So, focusing screens, I have an original 5D only, and I changed the focusing screen on it myself to the ees one i think it is; it's the one where the whole thing is a microprism, akin to the Leica SL screens. It's really sad if the focusing screen in the 5DIII is not user-replaceable.... I was hoping to upgrade some day. So, I don't have any Leica R on Nikon, but I do shoot M645 via an unchipped Fotodiox adapter on my F5, and the confirmation arrows and lights work great and are very responsive and fast. I would imagine the Leica R's that have been Leitaxed (horrors!) would be the same? Someone needs to invent a digital back for the SL...
Guest tanks Posted March 18, 2013 Share #90 Posted March 18, 2013 Leica products are not luxury goods. Even Leica executives comment on that exact point. Hermes, Titanium editions might have misled some to think that way:D
