Strange flare (?) effect on M8u

While playing around with my M8u and the 35/2 IV I have just discovered a strange effect. It only appears if the light source is just outside the frame, but only on the right side of the frame. I have never seen this before in my photos. Looks as if the sensor can't handle the large amout of light coming from the side, but why is it cut in the middle?

It is specific to the M8. There are pixels at the left and right edges of the sensor that should be shielded against light; these pixels are used to provide reference values for the other sensor pixels in the same row and the same half of the sensor. Unfortunately the shielding isn’t perfect so a light source just beyond the edge of the image will throw off those reference values, resulting in the notorious green streak artefact.
