mawe3000 Posted January 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) While playing around with my M8u and the 35/2 IV I have just discovered a strange effect. It only appears if the light source is just outside the frame, but only on the right side of the frame. I have never seen this before in my photos. Looks as if the sensor can't handle the large amout of light coming from the side, but why is it cut in the middle? Welcome, dear visitor! mjh Posted January 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2013 That’s a well-known phenomenon occurring when there’s a light source just outside the frame.
mawe3000 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted January 28, 2013 Well-known on M8, or any digital camera?
UliWer Posted January 28, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2013 Certainly for the M8 (where it occured once to me on some ten-thousand exposures). I was not able to reproduce it with the M9, so the edges of M8-sensor seem to be different.
mjh Posted January 28, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2013 It is specific to the M8. There are pixels at the left and right edges of the sensor that should be shielded against light; these pixels are used to provide reference values for the other sensor pixels in the same row and the same half of the sensor. Unfortunately the shielding isn’t perfect so a light source just beyond the edge of the image will throw off those reference values, resulting in the notorious green streak artefact. Lax Jought Posted January 28, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2013 I've had that on my M8.2 when I'm shooting with a very bright light source nearby. Not often, but occasionally.
wattsy Posted January 28, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is specific to the M8. It isn't specific to the M8 but that camera is more susceptible to it. I have had the exact same effect (on only one occasion) using my M9. http://www.ianwatts.co.uk/stuff/L8053267.jpg

jaapv Posted January 31, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 31, 2013 It isn't specific to the M8 but that camera is more susceptible to it. I have had the exact same effect (on only one occasion) using my M9. http://www.ianwatts.co.uk/stuff/L8053267.jpg Same here -twice. However, on the M8 it is reproducible
