Sean, are you still planning to include the section about oof-rendering in this article?

For me it would be one of the most interesting parts

Cheers, Tom

Absolutely...those pictures were done some time ago actually. As soon as I have time to go back to it, I'll do that section. I need three of me right now.

Cheers,

Sean

Aren't we forgetting to stay in the Leica house? I believe the Summarit falls in the same group, with the same bokehroos.jpg

Hi Jaap,

Well, the nice thing about the RF Leica house is that it has an M shaped door frame into which various doors can fit.<G>

Cheers,

Sean

I would be interested to shoot a Summarit for some time. People write different things about the lens and bokeh. For sure I like the image you posted.

I was close to buy one but than didnt know.

I don't know about your technical abilities, Tom, but there is a Summarit kit for sale in the B&S forum right now. Should you decide to go for it, there are repairmen that might help you out to put it together. I know one right here in Holland.

Thanks Jaap,

but in case I get one I would gofor a sample in good condition.

What is a good price for the lens?

However right now I am more leaning towards a Sonnar.

I paid as I recall 200 $ for an A+ Summarit LTM. For this kit? Impossible to judge, but it cannot be much...

I considered this lens, but ended up with the 50mm f/2 Planar instead. Razor sharp across the field and pleasing, smooth bokeh. If I needed the extra stop and glamour effect then the Sonnar would have been my choice as well, but the Planar does everything I want very well.

Hi Mark,

I don't own the LUX ASPH but I have used it extensively - a friend lends it to me every so often. All I can say is they are two totally different lenses. The LUX ASPH is perhaps the best 50mm lens bar none (my opinion). It is brutually sharp and performs well wide-open. I just can't spring $2600US (close to $3000CDN) for a 50mm lens. If I could I would no doubt get the ASPH LUX. That said I would keep the Sonar C for it's very particular image look and feel and IQ.

Cheers. Terry.

Now the price has jumped to $3700.00 in the U.S., I wish I had purchased it earlier.

Can you post some shots here, especially portraits wide open?

Just got mine yesterday - optimized @1.5 via PopFlash. This was shot on my M9, I'll try the M8.2 later.

Best,

Ron
