masjah Posted January 20, 2013 Author Share #22 Posted January 20, 2013 Last word! Careful wiping round the body/lens interface with a cotton bud soaked in WD40, several times during yesterday, and the lens has unscrewed OK with no undue force! Also, with some repeated attempted actuations, the shutter is now working, though whether the speeds are off is anyone's guess. Thanks again everyone. Michael Geschlecht Posted January 20, 2013 Share #23 Posted January 20, 2013 Hello John, I would try to be careful about where residues of that WD-40 might go. Even a number of days later. Best Regards, Michael

Now that you can remove the Elmar... : how the shutter curtains do look ? Clean / solid or dirty/worn ? Do you really think not to buy it ? A standard in those conditions ought to be priced, I'd say, under 300 Euros (found quickly this reference) https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/standard-chrome-p-15.html And it is a fine classic oldie to have... My friend who the owner initially asked for advice has the camera back with him now; he says that with the lens off, the shutter curtains look OK. I do confess I'm somewhat tempted by it! I do confess I'm somewhat tempted by it! To be sincere... I consider those Standards as nice items to be kept into a proper display in your office / studio / home ... they are definitely fine : as for USE, any Barnack with RF + Elmar is, in practice, as pocketable as a Standard, and the RF is a REAL addon. Exactly my thoughts Luigi. I don't actually really need another pocketable Leica, in that my CM and black Minilux (though not rangefinders) serve that purpose for me well enough. As you say, it would be nice to put on display.
earleygallery Posted January 20, 2013 Share #28 Posted January 20, 2013 Display purposes only??? Good grief!!!! No, fit a Snapshot Skopar 25mm to it (with supplied viewfinder) and you have a perfect street camera. Please, give the poor thing a good home or else tell me who the owner is!
