steveclem Posted January 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gents, I've cracked the V/F front element on my RD-1s, is there any reliable UK repair centre to amend this or should I send to Epson HQ or to Japan via third party Japancamerahunter? I'm in London, I have heard Camera City can effect some repairs, any advance on these options gratefully received . Steve

If i were you, i'd skip the alternatives and contact Epson in Japan about the repair.
enboe Posted January 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 13, 2013 It may be worth an email to check with Steve's Camera Service in Culver City, CA. Eric

Steve If thats London England you are in, I would give Robert White a ring, they are Voigtlander agents and the RD-1 bears a more than passing resemblance to the R2 etc Gerry
steveclem Posted January 16, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted January 16, 2013 Hmmm, Robert White are unable to help (!?),Camera City in London and Newton Ellis in Liverpool both want me to send the camera in to look at. Surely it's a pane of thin glass, what is there to look at, am I being dumb here? On another track, would perhaps a Leica part be suitable for this bearing in mind the sapphire conversion made available for M*.2, worth a punt/assuming the dimension are the same. I'm a bit baffled as to why a relatively simple part could elicit such head scratching, unless the glass is optically coated or mined form rare earth tantaunobtanium. gyoung Posted January 16, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its not a very common camera, I doubt if either of the repairers you mention have seen one before so won't know whats involved in getting at it. I would also give Malcolm Taylor a ring. I wonder who was the importer/agent when they were available new. Gerry

I just spoke to Will van Manen (he has a bunch of my lenses for maintenance on his desk) and mentioned your plight. He felt confident (with all caveats) that it should not be a problem. steveclem Posted January 16, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted January 16, 2013 have you contacted Epson? that should be your 1st priority, IMO.[/quote Yes, tried Epson and they suggested an outfit called micro partners express centre but were doubtful they could effect camera repairs,I called them anyway and am getting an email through with an exploded nomenclature so I can identify the offending front viewfinder element. We'll see. Failing that it's a trip to Holborn tomorrow. Failing that....hmmm. Jaap, thanks for the words of confidence. I'm surprised this camera hasn't been updated, there's so much to like about its operation and controls.
