stuny Posted January 4, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2013 All focal lengths quoted below are approximate, based on my aging memory cells: - D Lux 6 for about 25 - 90 mm equivalent. Quite small - C Lux 40 for about 25 - 240 MM equivalent. Smallest - V Lux 4 for about 25 - 600 MM equivalent. Compact electronic viewfinder looking like an SLR. She wanted a 'good' camera but isn't a photographer, she said people had suggested DSLR's and some of the compact system cameras. We talked about what she wanted the camera for, what she would do with the images and how much she wanted to know or learn about photography. In the end I suggested between a Panasonic TZ30 (with a Leica lens!) and an equivalent Canon model. They have super zoom lenses that go up to 500mm equivalent telephoto, they're compact enough to carry everywhere, and for general snapshots the quality is fine. She preferred the PanaLeica - good choice. My friend as been away on holiday, I'm looking forward to seeing how she got on with it. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have recently purchased a 50 year old M3 + f2 Summicrom 50mm lens and am absolutely delighted with it. It is really helping me to understand the basics of taking photographs - light; shutter speed; aperture etc. I also own an X1 which doesn't quite 'do it' for me so was looking to change this for a different Leica compact digital. Tonki-M Posted January 7, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) i've just bought the D-Lux 6 as a backup camera for my M9-P. the camera is great, it is ridiculously light, IQ is great. All the essentials can be accessed easily while 'fun' features needs a little dive into the menus. (opposite from the NEX cameras). good little powerhouse IMO.
