poppers Posted December 30, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking for a lens for portraits and tighter landscape crops. The 90mm f4 Minolta or Leica was my first thought but I worry it maybe too slow. Money is a factor with a budget up to about £250. What else should I be looking at. Maybe the the voigtlander 75mm. Ideas and examples welcome.

TomB_tx Posted December 30, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 30, 2012 I have both a 90mm f2.8 TeleElmarit (version1) and the 75 f2.5 Voigtlander. Both can be very nice on portraits. I usually prefer the longer working distance of the 90, but I've been using the Voigtlander more and have been pleased with it.
Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 30, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 30, 2012 Voigtlander 90mm 3.5 APO Lanthar has no flaws at all, optimum sharpness wide open and wonderful soft bokeh. I see many recommendations that the Voigtlander 75mm 2.5 is similar in quality but I didn't like the M8 75mm framelines befoe I the camera upgraded, still considering trying it out... !Nomad64 Posted December 30, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2012 With that budget get yourself a vintage Elmar 90 either M or LTM. You'll save some monies that you'll want to use to get a shade and you'll be amazed by the results. When it comes to landscape and portrait speed shouldn't be an issue. The Elmar is sharp but not annoyingly so and bokeh's smooth. IMHO it makes a good candidate for the use you have in mind. Cheers, Bruno
poppers Posted December 30, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted December 30, 2012 I do get a bit confused about the various leica 90s. Is that the Emar C?

tobey bilek Posted January 3, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 3, 2013 Do not buy a tele design if you want a sharp lens in close range. Elmar or 90 2.8 Elmarit for viso or RF focus. 90 4.0 macro if you want critically sharp close and far. 90 Summicron E55 is slightly soft up close and loses some micro contrast and make a nice portrait even on digital Leicas. Elmar C are tele designs as is 90 2,8 except for the above Elmarit that is useable for RF and Visoflex work.
poppers Posted January 8, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted January 8, 2013 I thought the Elmar C was not a tele design.
