algrove Posted December 28, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering if it has become a paper weight as any repair would certainly cost more than its paltry value. Any self repair options? I can unscrew the f stop cell at end of the lens. It locked at f11-maybe that is telling me something!
Advertisement Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Hi algrove, Take a look here Old Hector 13.5cm/4.5--f stops locked up. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted December 28, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 28, 2012 Do you know the Leica Camera Repair Book by Thomas Tomosy? There is a description of how to disassemble a Hector on p. 80 ff. Edit: 2 separate descriptions for the pre-war screw-mount and the 1954 M-mount versions.
algrove Posted December 28, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted December 28, 2012 I unscrewed the front and then took a look after turning it over to look at the backside and see that one of the blades is bent. It is over. Forever fixed at f11. I noticed a month ago someone wanted to buy a Hector leather case on some website. I now know someone who has one for sale--Me! iphoenix Posted December 29, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2012 Tragedy. I have two (1933 and 1937). Wonderful period lenses. Are you going to get another?
dpitt Posted December 29, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2012 A standard CLA costing about 70 Euro with Will van Manen should solve it. That is IMO still less than the current market value. Certainly when you consider that a lens of more than 50 years old would need a CLA anyway.
algrove Posted December 30, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted December 30, 2012 Tragedy. I have two (1933 and 1937). Wonderful period lenses. Are you going to get another? Heck for about USD100-125 they are great. Then again, why not get it done cheaply instead of trashing it as brad pitt suggested. In the US I bet it will cost more than US$100 (70 euros), but I will check on it. Mine is a late model-- 1958.

TomB_tx Posted December 31, 2012 Share #8 Posted December 31, 2012 I picked up an LTM Elmar 2.8 that had a bent blade. Sherry Krouter replaced it as part of a CLA at very reasonable cost.
