alandash Posted December 3, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted December 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been out of the Leica environment for a few years, and now I'm out-of-date on prices for lenses in superb condition. Â I have an early 35mm Summicron f2 (Canada) 174xxxx that was just indexed by DAG, which looks about LN- condition, ready to use on my M4 and M9P. It sat in my house about 25 years, and the focusing ring was frozen until DAG fixed it a few weeks ago. Â Now I found out that my 50mm Dual-Range Summicron should not be mounted on my M9P because the camera can be damaged if the close range mode is attempted. Â I am now in the market for an equivalent early 50mm Summicron without the dual range option, (in chrome) to use on the M4 & M9P, leaving the DR on my M3. Â I actually prefer the early model 50mm Summicron, if I can get a really minty one (no haze, scratches, fungus, or finish damages. I am wondering what the reasonable price range is for this model in top condition. Is it my imagination that the 35mm Summicron is considerably higher priced than the 50mm Summicron of the same era? wattsy Posted December 3, 2012 Share #2  Posted December 3, 2012 I am probably wrong (and someone will be along to correct me if I am) but aren't all (most of?) the 50 Summicrons of this vintage – not just the DR – liable to foul the interior of the M9 when focussed towards infinity. I know that a rigid 50 I considered buying wouldn't focus to infinity on my M9 but maybe I had been misled (perhaps it was a DR without the goggles?). Looking at the price difference at KEH I bought a "bargain" version. It was fine, but did have some haze. DAG cleaned it (and re-lubed focus) quite reasonably (less that the price difference to an EXC rated) and it has been great. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
tobey bilek Posted December 15, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted December 15, 2012 A DR will not mount on M8 & 9 period. Â I use my rigid all the time on both models. Nice lens if stopped down .
