Advertisement Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Hi IWC Doppel, Take a look here Rare Original Noctilux F1.2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted November 14, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2012 I looked at one at a Leica dealer in Chicago in 1969. As I recall the price new was $711, which I was not willing to spend...
MarkP Posted November 14, 2012 Share #3 Posted November 14, 2012 $711 was a lot of money in 1969.
Paul J Posted November 14, 2012 Share #4 Posted November 14, 2012 Hey. As far as I have heard the original 1.2 doesn't not have nearly as nice rendering as the 1.0.
wizard Posted November 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2012 For THAT kind of money I'd rather buy the current Noctilux. Andy

IWC Doppel Posted November 16, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted November 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) $711 was a lot of money in 1969. Petrol was 7.1p a litre ;-)
Messsucherkamera Posted November 18, 2012 Share #8 Posted November 18, 2012 12,372 euros equals $15,767USD - yikes!!!
IkarusJohn Posted November 18, 2012 Share #9 Posted November 18, 2012 Ended at €12,550.01 I hope the winner didn't win by .01 cent ... This is a rare lens, and the price is actually quite good. There's one for sale in Hong Kong for USD 30,000 on eBay.
Messsucherkamera Posted November 25, 2012 Share #10 Posted November 25, 2012 Is the 1.2 Noctilux more of a collector's item or a lens a photographer would use on a regular basis? The stiff price would indicate it is a rare lens that collectors would go after.
rramesh Posted November 25, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 25, 2012 You can always use it and sell it for a higher price. Just don't damage it in any way.
IWC Doppel Posted November 25, 2012 Author Share #12 Posted November 25, 2012 It is probably the most iconic collectable M lens, I thought it would sell for more. It was in a stunning condition and I have never seen one in that condition advertised. I am sure it would be sold via one of the big European dealers for more. I think total production was less than 4,000 lenses and it uses hand ground aspherical surfaces. I would buy at that money if I had the cash spare, the value is likely to grow quicker than the stock market
rramesh Posted November 25, 2012 Share #13 Posted November 25, 2012 From what I understood this lens was very hard to manufacture and there were many rejections in the post assembly QC. Did any rejects or duds make it past that stage and into the open market? This would prove to be a challenge for buyers on sites like eBay.
Ivar B Posted November 27, 2012 Share #14 Posted November 27, 2012 I believe the same lens (mint in box) was sold for 10 000 euros in excess of this price in the Westlicht auction a few days back. I have this lens, also mint in box. Makes me wonder if I should sell.
IWC Doppel Posted November 28, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted November 28, 2012 I would keep it and consider it your investment

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 29, 2012 Share #17 Posted November 29, 2012 My dealer wanted DM 3.000 (app. EUR 1.500) for one in 1980 (+/-). I refused ... These days I wish I hadn´t. 20 years later, a 1.0 NOCTILUX for EUR 1.500, refused again. These days I wish I hadn´t. Now I think about the .95 Such is LEICA-life.
