Marac Posted November 10, 2012 Share #21 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Funny enough, his name is Marc but not Norton. Â I have asked him if he is happy to look at repairs and he said he is happy if the owner of the camera takes it to him personally as he does not want the responsibility of posting expensive stuff around. Â Based in Herts.
Advertisement Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Hi Marac, Take a look here Abandoning DMR for new M?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rick_dykstra Posted November 10, 2012 Share #22 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Marac, let me quickly check; do you and Marc know how to remove the top cover of an R8? I'm planning some repairs. If so I'll start a new thread and ask for your input. Thanks.

If so I'll start a new thread and ask for your input. Thanks. Â Our repairs have been on the DMR digital back unit not the mechanics of the actual Camera itself. There is a chap in Milton Keynes who is very capable of that kind of repair. I can always ask but he will just say "send it in" ..
robsteve Posted November 11, 2012 Share #24 Â Posted November 11, 2012 I am pondering the move to the new M. I had an offer to trade a M lens for a D800E and a couple lenses and I took it. I have converted a couple of the R lenses to Nikon using the Leitax mounts and even converted a 1.4x APO extender to try my 400mm on the D800E. With the results so far, I have decided I can be happy with the Nikon and my M8 until the new M comes out. I put the DMR up or sale on Ebay this week. Â Here are a few shots with the D800E and the 400mm APO-Telyt with 1.4 extender. This is our new dog Bea, running back towards me. I got three frame in a row in focus on this one. Most of the time, I would throw the fetch bumper and she would be back to me before I could even find her with the narrow angle of view of 560mm. It was shot at f3.5. Â Â Â Â Here is the rig, excuse the picture quality, as it was taken with my cellphone. Â Â Â edit: Â Why are the images not showing?
topoxforddoc Posted November 11, 2012 Share #25  Posted November 11, 2012 Robert,  It will be strange not seeing any more DMR shots from you in the future. I guess there may not be many DMR users soon. To be honest, I’m not sure the new M will be my cup of tea. I love the ergonomics of the R9/DMR. In particular, I like the shutter release set into the base for shooting in portrait format as well as the great optical VF.  Still if Marac’s friend near London can fix DMRs, then maybe some of us will be shooting with them for a fair while yet.  Best wishes,  Charlie

robsteve Posted November 12, 2012 Share #27 Â Posted November 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm one the watchers of your auction Rob. Had a good sticky beak over breakfast the other day. Â I had to Google sticky beak to see what it meant. I hope not all the watchers are sticky beaks:) Â I have the patience to just list it until it sells. I was really only using it a couple times a year when I needed the best image quality and the rest of its time was spent in the camera cabinet. robsteve Posted November 19, 2012 Share #28 Â Posted November 19, 2012 I'm one the watchers of your auction Rob. Had a good sticky beak over breakfast the other day. Â Well, they person in HK that made an offer and that I accepted informed me he couldn't overdraw his credit card to pay for it. Lesson learned was on a Buy it Now auction where you specify immediate payment, offers are not held to this immediate payment clause. Â I haven't used Ebay to sell anything in years and it really seems to have changed where the seller is the victim now, rather than the buyer. rick_dykstra Posted November 20, 2012 Share #29 Â Posted November 20, 2012 You'd think people would know what they can afford before bidding! Â Of course he might simply have been probing to find your selling point. If he comes back, let him know the price has gone up. I was selling a car once, advertised for $15,000. A guy turned up, checked it thoroughly, took it for a drive and then offered $13,000. I replied, "I tell what, you can have it for $17,000." He ended up being happy to get it for $15,000. If he comes back, let him know the price has gone up.  The problem is with me accepting his offer, the auction ended and I get charged the fees on the ending price. I then had to wait four days to file a non paying bidder complaint and then there is another four day wait for him to respond before Ebay refunds the fees.  After all this, I will be listing it again in the next few days. I am tempted to just put it at an auction, starting at $1 and no reserve.

rick_dykstra Posted November 21, 2012 Share #32 Â Posted November 21, 2012 Rob, starting it at $1 could work well. Auctions for desirable goods in good condition with excellent photos and good information can be very lively. My search will find it

I thought I read that low starting bids prevented items from showing up on Leica Deals. It must have been fixed.  Current Leica Auctions | Search "DMR"

It takes about eight days, four days to let them pay before you can file a non payer dispute then four days for the dispute to close.

Actually, I received confirmation about the current status of repair services for the DMR from Leica at Solms a couple of days ago : - there is no repair service anymore for all electronic issues - only exchange of mechanical parts remains possible - batteries are not supported anymore (and there are no longer spare batteries in stock). But, Leica recommends a company in Germany which is able to refurbish DMR batteries : preiswerte Akku Reparatur - Aufbereitung Akku - Akku sofort reparieren - Akkupack Aufarbeitung - Umweltschutz mit Akku Recycling - alten Akku aufarbeiten - defekten Akku aufbereiten - Akku Reparatur Mainz - Akku Reparatur Wiesbaden - Leica DMR 14447  A sad status that makes (some) current prices of DMR weird...
