Advertisement Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here Sancerre Street Scene. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted November 1, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2012 Keith, This is wonderful. I might just take up B&W. The old Summaron, medium slow film and Rodinal really delivers. Add that to your sensitive eye and a street in old France - and fine pictures result.

wda Posted November 2, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 2, 2012 Keith, that is very atmospheric and a good example of monochrome. It is a tough call on whether £5,000 would buy you a significantly better tool. Welcome home!
sblitz Posted November 2, 2012 Share #6 Posted November 2, 2012 wonderful shot -- is it the film/developing that makes it so sharp or the scan/pp? my feeling is if it were a tad softer it would go from terrific to great. at least to me and my eyes. Keith (M) Posted November 2, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted November 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all for the comments. wonderful shot -- is it the film/developing that makes it so sharp or the scan/pp? my feeling is if it were a tad softer it would go from terrific to great. at least to me and my eyes. An interesting comment, Steve. As it happens, I had prepared two versions and posted the one that was most 'punchy', whilst reserving the right to revert to a smoother version, displayed below. I am coming around to thinking that this is the better one. Welcome, dear visitor! sblitz Posted November 2, 2012 Share #8 Posted November 2, 2012 to my eyes and taste, purely subjective, i like the second one a lot better. to me it captures a mood that film captures -- why make a film shot look like digital in pp? but like i said, it is purely subjective no right or wrong just personal bias here. thanks for taking the time to try it this way and post it. steve

Keith (M) Posted November 6, 2012 Author Share #18 Posted November 6, 2012 My thanks for all the latest comments Actually, I'm somewhat surprised that it came out as well as it has as it was all rather rushed. It was a dull and drizzly day as I turned a corner, saw the possibilities offered by glistening road surface and the figure, but had to whip my camera out from inside my coat, crouch down, select aperture and shutter speed, curse, take lens cap off, repeat selection of shutter speed and aperture, focus and fire! wattsy Posted November 7, 2012 Share #19 Posted November 7, 2012 I think somewhere between the two would be my preference.
oltimer Posted November 8, 2012 Share #20 Posted November 8, 2012 For an oltimer such as myself, the 2nd shot is the one that transmits the mood best. I find a lens cap useful for putting the lens away, but a curse for being ready to shoot (I keep mine at home). I have my camera lenscapless with me at all times, ON, fstop and shutter speed set for present light conditions, focussing at infinity, and I still miss shots!
